It will get better once the engine gets broken in. Mine an auto with 3.15's and now has 7k on the odometer and it finally just now getting the highway rated mpg. The 3.15's kill in town mugs for me. My last mustang was a 13 gt with a manual and 3.73's and did awesome in town and the highway.
I have 700 miles on my GT and still get 25mpg on the highway. Engine must already be broken in

Should my mpg continue to go down from idling? Cuz that's what happens when I idle

I paid $2.19 for premium this morning. Burn it!!! Americas oil drillers will thank you!

Unfortunately, I'm old enough to remember paying .75 per gallon when I first started driving back in 1978.
BUT! Running the inflation calculator, that .75 cents back then is equal to $2.74. So I'm paying .55 cents less for gas today than I did in 1978! Well, actually .15 cents cheaper if you run the calculator on that too.

You are breaking the engine in it's gonna have odd fuel consumption. I would only be worried if it's like 9mpg lol. I mean even if you are on the highway but are cruising at like 85 it's gonna be a lot lower the. Then you are at 70. I mean at 70 my f150 averages around 19. If I put the cruise to 68 I get around 21. This is all on flat highway. Give it some time. hey evo how do you like the kooks with your whipple. You still hear the whine?

You definitely have a point there. Gas is cheap as hell nowadays and on top of that I don't need premium gas, so I guess it even benefits me a little more

Idle should not use that much fuel but if you just reset the meter it will change pretty quickly.

I've had the car for about 3 weeks now and have just been experiencing terrible mpg. Currently I'm at 15.4, mostly city but I do have a 50 mile highway trip factored into that. Checking through the forums, there's GT's getting better:tsk:
I know I'm not heavy footed, so it's not me. Do I have to break the engine in more?(currently at 330miles). Are there problems I should check for??
15.4 seems too low. You try resetting the trip computer before making a highway run? I would think the Mustang V6 could muster at least 20 city, 27 highway. I think that V6 is direct inject, so it should be very efficient, relative to its power.

i actually believe my 16 ecoboost is breaking in.

as far as i can tell its not pinging anymore.

also when I go out and do a hard run it smells like stuff is still burning off.

maybe go out and full throttle it in 3rd from 3k to redline a few times. maybe the same in 4th.

Engine break-in is non-existent these days. You wont see a measurable increase. I average about 12.75 in the city and 25 on the highway. The only mixed driving I've done usually sits between 15-17mpg.

My display would say the same thing but when it was hand calculated it was a lot lower.
