Look the 1LE is about 5K more than the mustang, The 1LE tires are extreme summer tires different from the mustangs, The fronts are bigger, Its got a Short throw tremec shifter. C'mon guys the Mustang did very well.

i rode in and drove them monday. they are leagues beyond current car handling wise.
Lucky. and good to hear. I am betting after everyone actually gets behind the wheel some of the naysayers will come around.

At which point did the Camaro ever outperform the Mustangs in the 90's?
At least from April, 1993 through December, 1999. Possibly before that.

So the test cars have every option in the book. That's not new. Our cars did not get more expensive. And you can still get a $33K Ricky Racer if you want it.

all of these 'problems' can be fixed with a few aftermarket upgrades.

do you guys CONSTANTLY track your cars?

All reviewers said in daily-driving situations, it destroys everything.

I drag race mine several times though out the year. And for the first year I try to get my best time bone stock. Its gonna suck if I match up with a stock 11-14 GT and lose. I know once I start modding the guy with the biggest wallet is gonna win, but I would at least think that a newer Mustang GT is gonna be faster than an older one in a straight line. Its kinda like when the first 4.6L 2V came out. Somehow the Mustang is slower and going backwards in drag strip performance.

I'm sure a tune alone will put it above the S197 (we're talking less than .2 of a second here...)

My review of this review -

A bit erratic, like the purported mismatch between the front and rear suspension characterized in this statement.

"Though it managed a higher average g on the figure eight than the Boss 302 -- which we'd still feel confident calling the best Mustang ever -- the 2015 Mustang didn't feel as nimble or competent as the Boss; it didn't feel like the front and rear ends were talking to each other."

Two things come to mind - 1) MT maybe discovered a weakness in the GT performance pack tuning that will require additional tweaking to eliminate, and 2) the driver making the review has a frame of reference that is narrow and doesn't consider a larger picture (as someone mentioned, why didn't they run it in "Track" mode).

There are a fair number of positives that dovetail with the information already shared with Ford about what would be improved. The other major downside called out - weight.

exactly the 2015 had higher measurables than the Boss 302 but lower "feel", which one might expect considering the boss was an all out performance model and the GT PP is just an option package. It will outperform the boss but may not "feel" as nimble while its doing it

Im saying stock for stock. A tune on that car will do the same. Sorry to nit pick you, but stock for stock is what it is. Once mods start open up your wallet to win.

My point is stock this car may be slower or equal in a straight line. I was hoping it would be quicker in stock form.

Ive modded my last 2 Stangs and this one will be no different, but it seems like I buy Mustangs at the wrong time. I bought a 94 GT that was trounced not only by previous Fox bodied Mustangs but was humiliated by the LT1.
I bought a 05 GT that had no Camaro to go up against but got beat on by a 400hp GTO. And while the 15 GT will hold its own against the Camaro, it might not against the 11-14s. And when the new LT1 Camaro comes out the 15 GT stock is most likely gonna get beat in a straight line.

I love Mustangs but I will not give credit when it is not deserved.

Overall yes I do give credit for the entire package. The IRS is what did it for me. Im just disappointed in the straight line performance.

I remember being very interested in the 2010 refresh for the s197, but at the same time being disappointed when it came out because it did not offer much more performance over the older s197.

Then came the 2010 Camaro SS... and ford manifested the 5.0 engine out of thin air and put it in the GT as we know it today (in some variation or another).

Maybe ford is pulling a punch here to focus on going global and also to anticipate the next gen Camaro? Who knows... only time will tell. But I will guess they have another trick up their sleeve just like when they switched suddenly to the 5.0 from the 4.6 in the 2010 - 2011 years.

what do you guys think? wishful thinking?

I would be VERY surprised if Ford didn't respond to the new 6th gen Camaro once it has been out for a year or two.
See that's the difference. Its been each year in the past that the model refresh would up the other one. mustang track pack beat the old SS, then 1LE came out to beat the mustang track pack, now.... the PP should beat the 1LE, then in 2016 chevy will bring something that should beat the PP. Then the model refresh of the mustang will beat that.

Don't get me wrong...I'm still going to love my car and drive it like crazy, as I am coming from a v6...so its going to be a much needed improvement. I wanted it to be more of a gap then just a driver mod.

M&T put at 4.4 sec for 0-60 while R&T said the best was 5.1

What a dam shame. This car should have been alot faster than the old mustang. This is a disgrace.

If I recall you have to buy the Premium to get the performance package option and that will run you 39k with no other options. You can purchase the Camaro 1LE for 38k.

I lifted this comparison from a post on another forum but you get the idea:

Just for grins here are the stats from MotorTrends Tests

0 to 60
2015 Mustang GT: 4.4
2012 Boss: 4.0
2013 Camaro 1LE: 4.3

1/4 Mile
2015 Mustang GT: 12.8 @ 112.2
2012 Boss: 12.4 @ 115
2013 Camaro 1LE: 12.7 @ 111.8

Figure Eight
2015 Mustang GT: 24.7 @ 0.84g
2012 B0ss: 24.6 @ 0.81g
2013 Camaro 1LE: 24.2 @ 0.83g

Braking 60 to 0
2015 Mustang GT: 107'
2012 Boss: 106'
