I've done everything and no mode proved to be noticeably different than another

I've always done it in S(tried all the different modes) and just let the car handle the shifting.
I have seen a few people saying D will go quicker than S but idk about that

if stock, put the car in d and let it do the work. if you are tuned, talk with your tuner. most likely d will be the answer

Traction control off. That automatically puts you in track mod. Tried leaving it in drive and sport. No noticeable difference here.

I have tried both D and S with Traction Control and Advance Track off in S+ (I think that puts it in Track Mode when you do that). I have gotten quicker times in D, but others have had better luck in S. I can't tell a difference. Try both and see what works for you. BTW, I have gone 8.19@87 on stock tires and NO performance mods. I submitted my time slip for this pass and that should put me at ~5 on the list. I only have Cradle Lockout kit and diff bushings. Nice cool air in the fall really helps ET! I am foot braking to around 1500-1700 and rolling into throttle as I launch. Practice, practice, practice! Last time at track I had rear tire pressure @ 25 psi and front bumped up to about 40. Ran the 8.19 on first pass and ran 8.20s rest of the night. Try both D and S and see what works for you. Have fun and good luck.
