MMR Big Tube ?????

Prefilters are great for large-sized particulate, but the ones I've read about are really made for dust >5um.

I'm actually concerned about letting too much air in as I don't want to cause a lean condition or mess with the MAP readings.

I have no idea why there's coating on the inside of the tube. I have tons of pictures and I'll do a writeup when everything's worked out. Here's a picture, it looks like acrylic paint: http://i.imgur.com/P5T48jP.jpg

It's a Volant 61510. I ordered mine from Amazon for $80.

I don't get the placement of this, though. Wouldn't all airflow be blocked by the bumper cover?

I'm just in it for the whooshing noises.

The powercore design is what Ford used on the 6.0 diesel engines. An excellent filter. On those trucks it is considered superior to the aftermarket filters available. They have great flow and a long life.
Good choice.

I called MMR today and was told there should be no coating on the inside of the tube, it's just overspray. I'm going to attack it with some 400 grit and do a full writeup with datalogs and audio.

I'm really looking forward to your write up because I am leaning heavily to getting this piece. The main thing I really need to know is if it cools IATs, and if it does, i'm really curious where exactly it's sucking cold air from, considering the bumper cover will completely block where the air filter and inlet sits.

I don't even care about torque or horsepower gains from this piece. I just want it for the sound, the look, and hopefully its cooling capabilities.

An intake is not going to do much to cool IATs as they are mostly generated by the turbo. To reduce IATs, look to an intercooler and/or meth.

I'm mainly just interested to see what it does, if anything. I'm well aware that in general they don't make a huge difference. It's going to be part of a package that will also include a larger intercooler on my car. I'm not sure if meth will be needed at all since this isn't for road course racing, or even drag racing, but mainly just very spirited back road driving and general usage. I plan to use Torrie's tune, so let me know if I'm wrong, but I would just think you don't need the meth injections until you're pushing this car well north of 350 HP to the wheels and/or dragging/racing the car frequently.

Meth injection was the first mod Torrie did to his car. Those IATs climb like crazy as soon as you are into boost. However, the larger intercooler will certainly help. I have a meth kit at home and I am likely ordering the MMR intercooler as well.

I did a dry fit of the big tube this morning, found that I have to relocate the horn in order to fit my filter. I wish the tube were shorter so I could pop the filter right in front of the stock air inlet. I'll finish the install after I fix my water softener, fugger is leaking water all over the garage.

There's plenty of open area behind the skidpan for it to pull air from, plus the original inlet. There will definitely be some warm air involved though.
