Missed an Up Shift

I just got this car June 21st and I have lots to learn but not new to manual transmissions. It's just that I never missed an up shift before.

I haven't even thought of starting in 2nd to be honest. Does the take-off same as first?

Also when on 1st gear then taking off, sometimes I can't predict the clutch engagement on this car. But that's just probably me needing more practice...

It will leave just fine in 2nd gear; dont expect to break any records but you can leave in 2nd without issue (better than most cars in 1st).

The shift gates are very tight on the MT-82, it's a common complaint since 2011 to miss shifts for people new to the car. Let the shifter find the gear for you instead of trying to make the shifter go into each gate. Going 2-3 is a simple push forward on the shifter.

I honestly havent found that to be true but this is just one in a long line of performance vehicles I suppose.

The gates certainly arent tight. This is one of the sloppiest manuals I've ever had (in pretty much all regards). It is by far the least impressive part of the 11-current Mustangs. I'd much rather have a Tremec in this regard.

Get a Barton shifter and there will never be any missed shifts.

Even spirited driving I have yet to miss shift to a higher gear.....I feel you really have to force things to the right pretty hard to miss third gear.....shifting up or down I let the shifter do the work for me instead of trying to force where you think it should go. Well I guess everyone has their own preference/style to how they do things.....

I routinely go 1 > 2 > 4 > 6

3rd and 5th gears get skipped a lot for me. so much torque, you don't need all the gears.

I am lovin the MT82 in my perfpack GT, I noticed tonight that coming off the highway and turning into the side roads I only have to drop into 5th gear..Amazing:hail:

Same here, my factory shifter is perfect, no grinding or missed shifts. Good, short, firm throws... If something goes wrong shifting its my error. No aftermarket shifter going in mine

No kidding ... 5th to 2nd = possible smoked transmission. Best tell him he's driven your Mustang all he's gonna get.

Let the centering spring in the shifter do the work from 2nd to 3rd or from 5th to 4th. Inexperienced manual transmission drivers get a bit nuts with the stick side motion from 2nd to 3rd and hit 5th, or from 5th to 4th and hit 2nd (BAD!).

I dont think it's right, I test drove 2 manual Mustangs (1 EB, 1 V6) before ordering mine, and I was using the MT82 for the first time of my life, and it seemed just fine actually... But I've been driving manual cars my whole life (French born and raised, moved to Canada last year), besides the GMC Terrain I owned for 10months when I first got here.
Sounds more like a problem for people "new" to manual, than for people new to the car, to me

Exactly, thats what I told my gf when I taught her how to drive a manual. You only need to pull towards you when you go 1st and 2nd, let it be (just push up or pull down for 3rd and 4th, and then push it to the side 5th and 6th...
And after 6 months she drives like a champion :first:

Too many people try to move the stick instead of just leading it towards the right direction
