I love my MGW I did the clutch line RP fluid swap and the whiteline shifter bushing it is a big difference. I have yet to miss a gear at the track shifting at 7500. If you do those upgrades there is no need in taking the spring out. I do just fine with it in there.

Any experience with the MGW with and without the bushing?

Go w Barton 25% and never look back
Absolutely...

Just installed mine. You can bang gears with no flex or fear of missing a shift.

Yes it felt great as well it feels like a top loader with it being attached to the transmission. The bushing just stiffens it up even more but I wouldn't like the bushing for a DD. It did good without it I just wanted all I can get as I take my to the track quite often. The spring MGW uses for it make it pop into netural makes it effortless for the 2nd to 3rd shift just push it forward.

I can't wait to install mine to my soon to be new to me 15 This is the fix for the MT82, without a doubt. I wrecked a sychro in my 14's MT82 missing a shift with the stock shifter. Never again...

Already have the white line bushing and the Steeda rear shifter bracket .
You can toss the steeda rear backet as its not needed on the MGW. This thing is solid after you get everything tightened down.

Like I said you do the mods I listed and will love it. My wife even said something about how it drives after the mods.

Should I go with the MGW or Barton short shifter? Either way I will be installing the Steeda transmission bushing. There doesn't seem to be a direct comparison between the two. Or is it like a GM v Ford argument?

I went with Barton. I had an MGW in my 04 Cobra and it was a great shifter.

I went with Barton this time mostly because it allowed me to retain the reverse lock out.

MGW's current race spec shifter doesn't retain the reverse lock out, but they did say they are releasing a reverse lock out version some time soon (you might want to call and confirm with them if you're leaning towards MGW.

As far as quality, I don't think you can go wrong with either.

Have you had either of them before on another Mustang? Just asking because there is a little learning curve after installing either one of them.

I am leaning towards Barton as well, it will be a while until I actually have the car so I will just put it on the list.

Being from Aus I have never had a short shifter on a Mustang. However I have had a short shifter on a 480hp G8 GXP (Holden Commodore SS), which made such a big difference.

I will get this and a bunch of other parts to be installed professionally by a shop down here that only deals with Mustangs.

What else do I need to learn after installing this shifter?

Nothing specific to learn. Its just that the shorter throws, more direct feeling and stiffer feel (the stock shifter feels like it flexes even in normal, daily non-fast driving situations) take a little bit of getting use to. I just had to learn to adjust my shifting and clutching timing a little bit.

Don't worry, you'll be banging gears after 15 minutes of driving.

A couple of people have mentioned changing the clutch line. How does the line impact the shifting.

Seems to me if you are going to change shifters it makes the most sense to go with one that is entirely attached to the transmission like the MGW.

Has anyone tried the Blowfish Racing bracket that mounts to the tranny and the rear mount of the stock shifter attaches to the bracket divorcing the shifter from the fkoor.

Changing the clutch line made the clutch engagement more predictable even with the spring still in it. I think a lot of people go for the Barton because of the price but I do a lot of research before buying any part for my car. MGW has it down with the race spec shifter. I didn't care for the reverse lockout on the stock shifter I love the push down a lot better.
