Oh god, you do not want a Ford dual clutch.... trust me. Been there done that with my 2012 Focus before trading it in for the ST.
I came out of a GTI dual clutch and it was incredible. What is wrong with Ford's? I've never experienced Ford's version.

The new Focus at least for the first year they came out with the dual clutch, they rattled, sounded like shit when taking off from a stop. My clutches had to be replaced at 36k miles because it developed a crack. It shuddered a lot too. It was god awful. I had a Fiesta rental car up north too and it had the same issues but worse. The only time it was good was up on the highway speed.

Ok... Nemesys sorry if you felt insulted... no need to be rude towards newer members. If anything you should welcome them and encourage them to still buy. Like Rachel did.
10 pages on a forum trying to figure out whats going on underneath the car does not sound "normal".

Rachel, I will PM you later on this week. Thanks for your reply. In the particular case of me driving the car it was found to be abnormal even by the sales person who drove it in the parking lot.
You're welcome, sunfigt. Sounds like a plan; I'll keep a lookout for your PM. :)

Has anyone verified yet if the 2015 mustang 5.0 uses a dual-mass flywheel? This type flywheel is definitely used on LS3 V8 camaros. But interestingly, when searching parts for dodge challenger, they seem to list parts for a normal flywheel and clutch. When I saw that, this suggested the 2015 mustang 5.0 may actually not use any dual-mass flywheel. If the 5.0 indeed does have a dual-mass flywheel, this would add to any thud. If you look up "thud" and "dual mass flywheel" online, you will see a long, long list of rear wheel drive cars (such as BMW) for which they have their own thud when they shift at low speeds. With a dual mass flywheel, the clutch disk no longer has springs, and the flywheel has large springs and it functions as a damper mechanism to the driveline.

Edit: I just read the post directly below that says the 2015 (5.0) does not have a dual-mass flywheel. (Is it really true though? Truly confirmed? I know the V6 models already have it.)

I'm pretty sure the thud heard in only the PP models is the Torsen diff engaging. Sorry if this had already been addressed but I couldn't get through all the pages..

That's not saying all the noises described are the one I'm thinking of but the shift to first is the Torsen engaging.

The thud doesn't sound like a tranny issue. I agree it comes from the diff. I assume it's the pinions in the diff taking up.

If it was the differential the sound wouldn't be a thud, it would be metallic sounding. Also, if there was enough backlash between the ring and pinion the diff is not long for this world. Backlash noises in a differential happens after a vehicle has seen a long hard life.

Torsen differentials don't "engage" (a clutch type diff doesn't either), they have gears that are constantly engaged that allow the torque to be redirect to one wheel or the other. They do this by the gears binding up. They don't thud.

The big down side to a Torsen is if one wheel looses all traction (on ice or becomes air born in a corner) zero torque is applied to either wheel.

I'm also in the GT PP thud club. Hope Ford fixes this, but very unlikely.
Theres nothing to fix. A lot of high performance RWD vehicles do this. Look it up. Theres nothing wrong with your cars.

I noticed the thud when going into 2nd and 3rd gears. Not that I care about it that much but I just discovered that it doesn't do it when I double clutch.
