When you asked the service techs, were they serious about voided warranty work due to fluid changes?
This would mean that not using Motorcraft brand oil in the engine will void warranty work on my engine?

They said they couldn't guarantee Ford would warranty it. It all depends on the case. If they deemed the problem was caused by the different oil then they would not warranty it. Engine oil is a little different, as long as you are using the same 5w-20 you will be fine. It all depends on what the problem is.

Ryan1112 - I did the Royal Purple Synchromax fluid swap on my manual trans today and hate to tell you but the thud is still there if you shift aggressively. I had someone tell me it is due to the sudden stop of the synchros when shifting that causes it, and it's normal. I dug around on some of the older mustang forums (2011 and up) with the same trans as ours and seems this is part and parcel for our MT82.
That figures and I bet Amsoil wouldn't help either. Oh well, the thud doesn't really bother me especially since I know it's not hurting anything.

Thats right PandaMike casual driving and mainly the lower gears..even going into 1st from a stop...It is a dull but solid "thud" or "bump" from underneath the car somewhere in the drive train...I believe it is slack somewhere in the drivetrain. I also noticed that it does NOT do this when downshifting...only when first engaging the gears AND once it makes the thud, if the car does not move, it does NOT do it again. Only after the car has moved/drivetrain moved will it "thud" again when just meshing into gear. Very strange.

I get the same thud at a stop when putting it into first. But if I go back to neutral and back to first it doesn't do it. It's weird

That's because the synchronizers aren't spinning at different speeds after you go back to neutral and then back to 1st.

Most of people have this issue. Why ford do not try fix it? why they not recall it for all of us?

i am going to bring it dealership next week and talk with them and if they not give me answer.
i will install steeda bushing first and it does not fix i will put MGW shifter maybe... no i have too... God... it is too expensive

Because nothing is broken.
I knew it comes out but still i hate that answer nothing personal tho.:p

I meant people always ask me why did you buy Mustang you can buy BMW instead. but i always answered i ride whatever i like and Mustang is way better than BMW unless it is M3 or M5.

This is issue is all about feel of the ride. Emotional feeling of the car. Mustang should makes people happy with this kind of basic thing. I still love my Mustang so much but i bet German do not let it happen over 4 years.

COME ON FORD!!! :ford:

The thud has substantially subsided for me after 3500 miles. It's pretty much gone in 3rd and 2nd and can barely notice it in 1st. Even before, it wasn't an issue for me. People should just enjoy the car. There is nothing wrong with it. It's a complete waste of time to chase recalls, transmission swaps, etc.

Nanashi, you are probably just getting used to the sound and tuning it out. I have 6k on mine and it is still prominent in 1to3 shifts

So word has it the "T" in "MT82" actually stands for "Thud". That should make everybody feel better about it now.
Silly me, I thought it meant something else altogether.

I also got a gt with PP and get the annoying thud, plus loud transmission whine that is pretty noticeable. Also when i push the clutch in its pretty noisy, makes a clicking noise and on top of that at time going from 3rd to 4th i can feel the gears kinda catch, very slight but i feel it.. my 14 wrx was nothing like this aside from gear wind.

Hey guys,

Have either of you visited your dealer for this thud? Can't let these Pony's stomp their feet and act up. Let me know if you take the Mustangs in; I'll see how to best assist on my end. :)

Anyone else who is having the issue, send some details via PM, and I'll take a look at the situation.

I researched a lot and i think, the problem is the rod from transmission shifter is multi-linked and that is banding and expending as transmission moving and shifter is moving. so it is not synchronized shifter and transmission together. also the other end of shifter is attached on the car body it makes more movement as well. so i feel like big engine which is GT owners have more issue than Eco owners because the rod is more bent for big size engine because the distance between transmission and shifter is shorter. IN MY OPINION.

Please take look around the 2:40

so the best solution is change shifter such as MGW race spec shifter which is solidly attached on transmission.

I think my drive train warranty will be voided if i change to the MGW shifter. i know it will not effect anything on my transmission but it something happened my dealer would point that out for the issue.

i do not get why Ford do some action for this. GT350 use different transmission which is TREMEC® 3160 and funny thing is
http://www.ford.com/cars/mustang/features/#page=Feature4

Ford said "Bolted to a world-class TREMEC® 3160 6-speed manual transmission" so it looks like MT-82 is not a world class transmission.

I really love my Mustang but i do not like Ford's behavior. they know the thud issue since 2011 and not fixed it.

Most likely, this post in this thread explains what the thud is.

Yes! except the change oil part. it is the problem and same solution in different way to approach. the whileline insert make less movement of transmission for rear mount shifter but this is kind of temp solution. when bushing is older and softer and the dis-synchronize issue will come back again.

so better way is just change it as transmission mounted type which is blowfish bracket. the blowfish use the stock multi-linked shift rod. so i think the MGW or barton shifter is the sloution.

I really hope Ford Racing makes this kind of better shifter. so i will install that on dealership without void warranty. or sales MGW as Ford Racing part.
