I as well was debating over race red and magnetic.

I ended up choosing race red. I recently went to view my car as it was delivered; it was surprisingly parked next to a magnetic.

The one thing I noticed with regards to the race red is the body lines are very salient compared to the magnetic version. On the other hand, the magnetic's metallic coating makes the paint look "deeper" than the red. Between the two, I felt the magnetic was a bit more "muted" compared to the red. At the end of the day, seeing the two cars side-by-side, I was more than satisfied with the red.

That being said, they are both great colours. Surprisingly, Race Red in north America isn't as common as I thought it would be; there are quite a few more magnetics on the road today.

Red is not very common anymore. It's all white, silver, and gray. And some black, I suppose.

If I could make my Mustang one single different color with a wave of a magic wand, it would be RR.

Everyone and their brother have Magnetic because Race Red is ugly.

I'm kidding! (seriously - no hate mail from the RR people, I really am kidding)

For me, my first choice was Ruby Red, and that is what I ended up with. If I absolutely could not have gotten Ruby, my choices would have gone like this:

  1. Deep Impact Blue
  2. Guard
  3. Magnetic
  4. Ingot Silver
  5. Oxford White
  6. Black
  7. Race Red
  8. Competition Orange
  9. Triple Yellow

So, Magnetic would have been my 3rd choice. Realistically, though, for me - If I couldn't have gotten one by my 3rd choice, I would probably have just not bought one.

To my eye, the race red has too much orange in it. To paraphrase Jeremy Clarkson, the Race Red (and CO and TY) are just too "shouty" for me.

I love loud colors that scream look at me I mean I don't drive a mustang to blend in with the herd. Thus why I picked orange . But red def over the grey everyone has a grey car .

I would have to agree with this. I was on the verge of choosing CO, but went to Race Red because of how "shouty" CO was. Race Red was still "shouty" but not over-the-top shouty.

Race Red in person does not have orange to it. In pictures, it sure comes out that way (not sure why).

When I went to see my Mustang the other day, I took a photo of it and it came out orange at first glance in the photo. In person, it's bright red.

Strongly leaning Guard Green, but the Competition Orange is looking better and better the more I see it - saw one today at an auto show in fact. Very unique color.

Yeah pictures aren't a good way to judge colors, especially if you have an average monitor. Race Red in person doesn't have any orange. Magnetic is more speckly/metallic than you can see in pictures.

These threads are really strange, though. Color is one of the most personal decisions there is.

My initial choice was guard but I ultimately decided on magnetic. However, I really think the S550 can pull of any color and I can safely say I'd be fully satisfied with any of them. I never like red cars but think race red looks fkn amazing on this body style.

If you're really torn between the two after seeing both in person, flip a coin (I'm not kidding). Also, I know everyone loves redline but ask yourself if you would get tired of it once the novelty wears off. This happens to some when it comes to two-tone interiors.

These questions puzzle me so. What type of person are you? Are you the one that wants everyone in the room to look your direction when you walk in the door? Then Race Red. Are you looking for more of a sinister sleeper that shines only when the sun does? Then go Magnetic! Both are nice, it really depends on you!

The combination of exterior and interior is important, and I think Magnetic with Red Line would look great. BUT at the end of the day, it's another grey car. Same thing with red over here. Too many red cars, and too many red mustangs! As everyone said though, it's a personal preference. Subtle or "Popping"? If I were to choose between these two I'd probably go with Magnetic (only with the red interior), otherwise Race Red.
