Red is a funny color. Humans eyes can tell the difference between wave lengths of red down to one nanometer. I remember years ago people were always shocked how orange their red cars appeared when I parked my red quattro turbo next to them. So it depends on the context how red is red.

I wanted red from the start, always liked red cars, but it can't hate having the blessings of my wife on what is basically a car we probably could live without.

No body has mentioned how lovely red looks with carnuba!! I like red because to me it just resembles the classic colour of a race car. But specifically I wanted a car I can enjoy in the sun and magic hour..or even night. My black mustang looks great, but not a good sun cruising colour.

I love red for how well it takes the wax and looks polished. Can't wait!

Why aren't more people ordering RACE RED?
Some people love Race Red. Those that do, ordered it. It does stand out, no question about that.

But the answer to your question, at least among those of us who:
1. responded to your thread,
2. wanted bright red, and
3. opted not to order Race Red (DivineStrike, T8stang, Qwkynuf, and myself),
is that it looks too light/orange to us. I'm talking about in person, not pictures.

I would be interested to know if there were other reasons that people chose not to go Race Red, that wanted a bright red. I'm sure cops, not wanting to draw too much attention, and possibly insurance rates could be reasons.

Domestic blessing is very important, and all you guys who haven't learned that need to pay attention. That's the reason my car isn't Ingot. We both like White.

I had a Torch Red 99 Cobra 'vert. VERY orange. I liked the car, but it was too "Look at me!"

When I bought my 2006, the new body style was still relatively rare in this area. Several of my friends made comments along the lines of "Red Mustang, huh? You must really like talking to cops!"

I have daily-driven that car all over the Pacific Northwest for almost 9 years, have 188,000 miles on it, and have been pulled over 5 times:

  • Illegal U-Turn - this one was total bullshit. I made a u-turn from the left turn lane on a left arrow. No sign saying you couldn't. I'm like "look, just write the ticket. We'll let a judge decide" - no ticket.
  • Speeding, 60 in a 40 (construction) zone - guilty. Was taking a freeway offramp that I had forgotten was under construction, so instead of going from 70 zone to 55, it went from 70 to 40 to 55. Washington State Patrol got me right in the middle of the 40 zone. Told me that I really needed to be more careful.... no ticket
  • Illegal license plate cover - Yup, guilty. Also didn't have current proof of insurance, though I had literally every other insurance card that I had been issued since the car was new. - no ticket
  • Speeding, 69 in a 55 zone - guilty. Oregon State cop comes up to my passenger side window and says "Gonna need you to dial it down just a little bit. Have a nice day!" - No ticket
  • Speeding, 54 in a 40 zone - guilty. Wasn't in a hurry, just wasn't paying attention that the speed limit had dropped from 55 to 40. Ticket. The cop only fined me for 1mph over though, so the ticket was $75 instead of $190

So, out of the 5 times that I have been pulled over, I was definitely guilty 4 times. Never tried to "talk my way out" of anything, and have gotten 1 ticket.

Overall, I would say that the "red mustang" thing hasn't really been a problem for me. I have to admit though that being a middle aged white guy probably has helped with that.

Yeah some cameras can make race red look very orange, depending on the lighting conditions and auto exposure/white balance settings. Still like race red tho...

I have never liked Race Red or any bright red colors. HOWEVER, it looks good on this new body

Race Red is much more "red" than Torch Red, which I have had in the past. That one is about halfway to Competition Orange! But if you want RED, there's nothing like Porsche Guards Red.

Yes, that's a REAL red. Race Red is too much like CO to me. It's really hard for me to tell them apart unless they're parked right next to each other.

And Ruby Red is too dark, and my Mom has a Ruby Red PT Cruiser, so no...

And Yellow is Bumble Bee's color. Doesn't belong on a Ford. I know that's wrong, but that's how I look at it.

This model year should have had quintessential Mustang colors, like Grabber Blue and Sterling Grey. Not the same colors they're putting on all their cars now.

I chose Race Red for my 2015 Mustang Convertible. For me, it was an easy decision. I like it much better on this vehicle then Ruby Red which I think looks a lot better on a Fiesta, Fusion, Escape, etc, (not) a Mustang. I don`t see any "orange" in Race Red. Competition Orange is (orange). Could Ford have picked a better "Red", for sure. The Red shown in that photo of the Porsche would have been my obvious choice but.....Race Red will do fine.

I always did love that Porsche Guards Red- they have used it for ages- it is the best red out there IMHO.
