I painted my engine/coil covers this weekend. I bought a can of Magnetic Metallic base coat to match the car.

How's the paint holding up to the heat? Would really like to "copy cat" this.

I have not seen any indications of heat related issues. I'll be under the hood again tomorrow. I'll let you know if I find anything unusual.

Paint looks good and is holding up well. I also painted the intake tube and coolant reservoir with VHT wrinkle black. I think it looks good.

The center section of the engine cover is already wrinkled, but I may take it back off and spray it so it matches even better. The difference isn't as noticeable in person though.

Looks awesome. Very clean job! Now, I'm also thinking of doing that but with gloss paint. How do you remove the engine cover? Do you just pull it up? Any clips or screws I need to deal with?

The coil covers just pull off once you get a couple of hoses disconnected off the valve covers. The Engine cover just pulls off, unless you have a strut tower brace. Then you may want to loosen or remove that first. The engine cover also has a center section in it. Some people mask it off and spray around it. I removed mine by drilling out the fake plastic rivets with a 13/64 drill bit. I used 10-32x5/8" stainless bolts to put it back together.

Any tricks to easily getting the vinyl down into the letters? I've got some laying around, just haven't attempted it yet.

I took a q-tip and removed the cotton "buds" from both ends. Then I flattened the paper stick into an oval using a pair of pliers. Some q-tips have a plastic stick. This may damage the vinyl. Not sure.

Also, start from the middle out on each closed letter. For instance, on the P, O, R, D and B's, I started with the cutout/s or holes in the letters and worked my way out to the outside edge. Once you get the inside edge down around the plastic, the rest of the letter lays out pretty simply.

The truck is nearly finished(again). Everything that could be cut out or removed to save weight, was scrapped. Then I replaced all the mounts and cross bracing with lighter tubular versions. It's down to 2800lb, but it really needs a cage. You really have to use your head or it'll hand you your a$$.
