Ok, so I've got all my exhaust parts to install and I am suffering from some last minute indecision. I've got the Magnaflow Competition quad exhaust. It comes with an X-pipe, but I bought the MRT H-pipe and was planning on just using that instead. It is stock pipe diameter, thus slightly smaller and won't be direct bolt up attachment, but I've always preferred more of the old school muscle sound than the raspy sound.

But now I am having second thoughts. Supposedly, Magnaflow designed their system to be as deep as an H-pipe, but with an x-pipe. From the videos and reviews I've seen, this certainly seems to be true, as it definitely sounds like the deepest, least raspy exhaust. Now I'm wondering it it will almost be TOO deep and smooth with an H. The CJ Pony Parts video on this combo describes it as the most unique sound of any of the exhausts out there. I can't tell if this is good or bad. And he raved about the sound at idle and said it sounded like a cammed small block.

Obviously, I could always try them both and see what I like best, but once I go the H-pipe route I'm cutting pipe and I'd rather just make a decision and stick to it. I'm also more concerned with the overall sound than the few extra HP an X-pipe might get me.

I know drone might be an issue with either combo, but I'm hoping to go the J-pipe route and I've heard that helps immensely.

Got the MF Competition kit with x-pipe after going from an 07GT with Kooks offroad L/Ts and H w/ Borla Stingers. Definitely not as loud as the setup on the old car but it is deeper and bass-ier. I think you'll like it. Does rasp a little up top like an X over 5000rpm though and there is a bit of drone on the highway in certain gears but not enough to worry about much.

Like you i'd prefer an H to an X and don't care about a little power loss but when I bought it, it was one of the only kits on the market that came full 3" with straight through mufflers. I plan on going F/I in future and 3" will definitely help there.
