I had the FM American Thunder catback on my RT charger it was terrible. Droned in every gear not just cruising. I'd never buy FM anything. Have the Borla S Type catback and it's great. No drone and aggressive enough.

Flowmasters are a truck exhaust, imo. I've always had them on my trucks but they just don't sound right on these cars.

Roush and Corsa are my personal favorites for the S550. If I couldn't have Roush ABs and an X-Pipe, I would go with Corsa Xtreme catback.
nobody likes them on ls trucks!

My uncle has an ungodly loud 14 gt. Catless headers with flowmaster outlaws. It drones so bad inside its like constant pressure on your head. I'd never buy flowmaster anything. My ARH catback sounds great with no drone. The only Catbacks is buy for this car are the ARH, Corsa, or Solo catbacks. I personally would have bought a solo catback if I was doing it again. I love the way my car sounds, but the solo sounds fantastic too and is a few hundred cheaper. Can't beat it for the price.

The Gibson exhaust was super cheap, and sounds great. A bit loud (my neighbors aren't so happy) but I like it.

I used to like Flowmasters but after 8 years of drone from super 40's in my new edge mustang, never again. I am hesitant to get exhaust in my s550 for fear of having drone again.

Why did you pay for labor the 2nd time? All the hard work was done. You just need to unbolt the axle backs, and bolt the new ones in. Even the hard work is not hard though..

If he's just buying mufflers they need to be welded in. It doesn't sound like he bought axelbacks. That would just be bolt on.

I've had a few different setups on various mustangs. Not all of them drone. I've had Borla ATAKs and the S Types and neither drone. You'll pay a little more than some of the cheaper setups but it's worth it to not have to deal with the headache. Look for a used set. I got my catback for $850 off the forum. People sell sets all the time. Exhaust doesn't have to be new.

In the OP he said "Flowmaster Super 44's (axle back)". So I read it as being an axle back..

The one I have been thinking about is the borla touring cat back. It's lighter than stock and also keeps the resonator which helps eliminate drone. I agree in getting a used set, don't feel like spending 1200+ on a new one. Currently it sits at the bottom of my mods list.

You sure did! I love my Solo Performance exhaust. Sounds wonderful and not expensive (relatively). Also very light overall design (don't need two mufflers hanging off the car).

I like how Corsa sounds, too, but those sound like an exotic car compared to Solo which is more of a classic lower register sound comparatively. And the MBRP Race sounds good to me although I rarely seem them installed with aligned exhaust tips which makes me wonder about quality (and I dislike their "just the end of a pipe-looking" tips). I dislike the Ford Racing/Borla designs - all sound tinny and bad raspy to me. I've heard one Magnaflow (the middle loudness one) and it was alright - a bit bland... like super smoothed out). Few guys in the club here are designing their own exhaust because (1) the good ones are $1500 (way too expensive for pipe, if you ask them) and (2) they don't like the sound of anything they're hearing thus far. Or (3) they're cheap. :)

Obviously not a Coyote motor but I had Flow 2 chambers (pretty sure they were the original 40 series) on my 98 Cobra back in the day with an OR H Pipe and it sounded FANTASTIC.
Corsa or Borla are my two favorites for the Coyote.

I had Flowmaster American Thunder with a Bassani X-Pipe on a '96 GT (4.6L SOHC) that sounded GREAT!

The Coyote doesn't sound right with chambered mufflers.

The sound by which I judge all muscle car exhausts is my '89 LX 5.0. It had an off-road H-pipe and flowmaster 2-chamber mufflers. It was the greatest sound ever to come out of a tailpipe.

Ok, so maybe it wasn't, but that's how I choose to remember it.

I know I am in the minority when I say that I prefer to hear the coyote howl at high rpm than whatever come out of the exhaust. I think the coyote sounds louder when its in sport mode too.

You're definitely not in the minority about loving the higher RPM howl. It just sounds that much sexier coming from the tailpipes.
