Hi All,

Happy to confirm I have recently picked up a new Mach 1 in FJG.

Soon to be fitting the handling pack.

I have a query - In race mode the throttle response seems wrong, its slower than in Sport + mode. Ive taken to dealer and they can't see any fault codes. When I had a Bullitt, Im sure the Race Mode setting enabled the throttle response to be similar to Sport +

Please can you let me know how your car reacts when in Race Mode?
Thanks

Track mode on an M1 is a 1:1 pedal to throttle relationship :like:

Should have kept the Bullitt. Get a throttle controller.

Thanks for reply. Sorry for my ignorance re 1:1 throttle - How does M1 compare to Sports Plus mode?

The relationship between the pedal and the throttle are not linear and they alter by mode.

In simplistic terms the throttle opening is lazy in the wet mode and it's enthusiastic in sport and trac modes (on a GT).

Here's how the throttle mapping looks. Left: Normal. Middle: Rain & Snow. Right: Sport+ and Race track.

Throttle Pedal Mapping.png
On a M1 the throttle opening in track mode is linear so 50% pedal = 50% throttle (same as normal mode) - it's been done purposely by Ford in an attempt to keep the track guys smooth when applying power exiting a corner etc.

Those settings per drive mode can be altered by a tuner or using HP Tuners etc :like:

Note that none of these setting affect engine power, 100% pedal is 100% throttle is 100% power in any mode.

Does that help ?

That does help thank you, so its different to a Bullitt where it was notably sharper in track Mode. In Sports Plus, what do you think 50% pedal = ??% Throttle?

Yes, I believe sport and track use the same mapping in the Bullitt (like the GT).

So if you look at the graphs above and draw some lines on them, 50% pedal is approximately 60% throttle in sport and track on a GT and a Bullitt :like:

So in simplistic terms :

GT & Bullitt :
  • Tame throttle = wet mode.
  • Linear throttle = normal mode.
  • Aggressive throttle = sport and track modes.

Mach 1 :
  • Tame throttle = wet mode.
  • Linear throttle = normal and track modes.
  • Aggressive throttle = sport mode.

I thought I was imagining this, I just went from a GT to a Mach 1 and had been driving around in Track and thinking the throttle response just didn't seem very good then I started driving in Sport and thought it was noticeably better.

Thank you for this detailed reply. The car does operate in this way now that I've tested.

Although I can see how the longer throttle travel might help power modulation, it really was never an issue in the Bullitt and I much prefer the aggressive throttle mode.

Thanks to @WD Pro and @Vlad Soare for the above info. I used to put my car into Sport as soon as I'd cranked it but now I do t bother as I much prefer a 1:1 input output for the loud pedal. I would have said Snow mode was even more damped than above as it makes a real difference in er snow, pretty good I found. Again, cheers for info :like:

What about traction control? Is it Normal>Sport>Sport+>Track? So Track mode is the easiest to light up the rear tyres?

In theory yes, although there are two parts to the traction and stability - although they are both reduced as you go up the settings.

Track mode doesn’t fully turn one of them off, you need to pull the dyno plug for that :like:

‘Traction control’ is the ‘simple system’ that controls wheel spin.

‘Advance trac‘ is the more complex system that takes into account yaw and steering input etc etc. It’s the one that wants to keep you going in the direction that the front wheels are pointing.

I think track mode turns off traction control but just subdues advance trac.

You can then hold the mode toggle and it will give you a second message to tell you advance trac is also off.

Only it’s not off fully, you need to pull the dyno plug (near the air box on the inner wing /fender) to completely disable the nannies :like:
