Hi I bought some replacement lug nuts for my 2019 GT and noticed that the length of the taper is a bit longer on the ones I removed compared to the ones I just bought?

In the pic lower is new top is the old. There is a difference in the length of the taper but otherwise all the same. Is this something i should be concerned about or is it mine to use the new ones as replacements. They are one piece unlike the crap Ford ones.

Take your replacement ones and fit into the lug hole on a loose wheel. Notice how deep it sits, then the stockers. I would want the “longer” tapered ones just for more bearing surface. Those replacements seem really shallow on depth. I track my mustang so I would go with a depth similar to the stock.

Thx for the reply. Yeah it was the bearing area I was concerned about too. I just ordered some Dorman ones that will be here tomorrow. I will see how the taper looks like on those and if it is like the stock ones I'll just go with them. They are supposed to be OEM replacements so will see. Thx!

If you are putting them on stock wheels, you need the larger bearing area for proper fit. Most aftermarket wheels require the smaller "tuner" nuts.

Yes they are stock wheels but I can’t seem to find lug nuts in Canada that match them exactly. I just bought a Dorman set off Amazon that is supposed to be OEM replacements and they still don’t look right to me. Very frustrating. Pic below. Dorman on the left stock on the right.

If you search for "Mustang factory style lug nuts", you might have better luck. Amazon shows quite a few in the 14x1.50 size.

Thx I installed the Dorman ones I bought last night. What convinced me to go ahead was I called my dealer and there only option option outside of the stock crap were some aftermarket ones that they noted had a smaller tapered section than stock but were fine according to a service tech so I figured mine were ok too.

I did do some research about the Dorman ones and they came up as correct.

as long as they are at 60 degrees and the threads don't bottom out before the lug nuts are tight you are good.

The full taper doesn’t touch the wheel. If you look at the first picture you posted, you can see where the taper touched the wheel, only about half way up the taper. Your new lugs will be fine.

Here you go :

The standard ford nut measures :

Max OD (over stainless cap) : 30.75mm
Max OD (of the ford taper) : 27.10mm
Max OD (that actually contacts the taper in the wheel) : 25.00mm

I found the last measurement using dry wipe marker on a standard nut and torquing it up, it was also a good excuse to try out my new 24" breaker and socket that I got for birthday :

Diameter needed to cover the silver masked area on the PP wheels : 28.00mm (approx) :
