Hi All. I picked up a 2015 V6 Mustang recently. Really enjoying the car so far but there's always room for improvement. First mod was a GT exhaust which looks and sounds much nicer than the V6 version.

Next I want to look at suspension. The base suspension is okay but I'm looking for a mild upgrade without sacrificing ride quality. The roads around me are awful and the base suspension is about as stiff as I'd like, though I'm willing to give up a small amount of comfort for a large improvement in handling. What do you think my best route would be of these options?

-Keep base suspension, just add sway bars eventually ~$0 for now
-Steeda or Ford Performance progressive springs on base shocks/struts ~$250
-Steeda or Ford Performance progressive springs on low mile PP shocks/struts ~$400
-Used low mile PP Shocks and Springs ~$200

Not looking to spend a lot of money or do coilovers. Not looking to drop the car but will okay with up to a 1" drop if it means better handling and better/same comfort I have now. I've never driven in a PP mustang but understand the suspension is stiffer than the base, just not sure by how much.

Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

For a cheap upgrade...I'd go with a set of PP dampers and BMR SP080 (or 089/082), plus LCA bearings and CB005. I'd get these 4 done at once, get a good alignment and be done with it. I believe these are the major upgrades (meat & potatoes) and they are not super easy, which I think is a good reason to get them over with.

Later on, you can add strut braces, vert links, shock mounts...cheap and easy to install stuff, as budget becomes available.

My vote: Steeda Progressives on your current dampers. Leave everything else for now. Decide later if you want to upgrade. Take it steps.

I just got my Steeda progressives and sways on the porch today, for my GT. Getting installed in 3 weeks. I'll let you know how it changes the ride. Right now stock ride comfort is good, but like you said, handling could use some improvement. I'm looking to keep ride comfort as is and reduce body roll & front end lifts and dives.

Then you in fact got the right parts.

I think if your hope is to only keep ride quality as good as stock, you will be pleasantly surprised. I have the Steeda Progressive springs and think the ride quality is better than stock.

My vote, which is based on our testing and development as well as assisting customers in the same situation.

-Takeoff GT PP Sway Bars ($100?)
-BMR-SP080 Springs ($209 or cheaper)
-Use your current stock dampers ($0)

The next round of mods, I would add:

-Adjustable Sway Bar End Links ($250ish)
-Koni STR.T Shocks ($390 during the Koni Sale)

This will make your car a completely different machine...and this is what I believe to be the 100% absolute best bang for the buck for someone in your situation.

I have attached photos of @s550v6 car, maybe he will chime in...but he loves the SP080 Springs.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, lots to consider! I really only want to do the shocks/struts once and think the best value/performance compromise will be the PP shocks and Steeda or BMR springs.

Well the SP080 springs are a very proven set-up with the PP shocks and struts - so I will vouch for that combo no doubt! Hundreds and hundreds of happy PP owners with them on stock dampers.

That said, I would really base the PP damper and spring combo on the cost for the PP dampers. Keep in mind, with the Koni STR.T or the Steeda Fixed, you have a really good warranty (lifetime) on top of the great performance and ride increase. So that is worth considering. It's not super uncommon for OEM struts to fail.

I absolutly love my SP080 springs they are awesome on the V6! I have them on Steeda Pro-Action shocks and struts and the car feels very composed both through fast turns and over very bumpy roads. I also have a good amount of IRS modifications and chassis bracing both of which I would recommend as well. The V6 mustang has a lot of handling potential it just needs a few essential modifications to get it there. Lower control arm bearings seem to be a great mod along with toe to knuckle bearings, too.

Personally I love my spring/shock setup and my CB005 IRS brace, they have made the most noticible improvements in handling so far for me!

You really can't go wrong with either of those options. BMR and Steeda are great companies (as evidenced by their omnipresence here on the forums) and make great quality stuff.

such a helpful group here, thank you! Still not sure what to do. Lowering on stock shocks/struts is starting to concern me a little; I don't want to do all the work to install everything and run into the risk of a shock blowing out. Koni or other aftermarket shocks aren't in the budget right now as I have a bunch of other stuff I want to do and need to make some sacrifices for the time being.

However I found what might be good compromise. Someone posted in another thread about BMR SP082/089 springs. Supposedly these drop .5" rear and .875 " front. Can anyone verify that? I don't see drops posted on BMR's site. Since these aren't as much of a drop would they be a little easier on the shocks, and perhaps a little more comfortable? Looks like BMR springs are linear; are they reasonably comfortable?

Thanks!

Yes yes and yes on the 089/082 combo.
