I'd definitely start with a PP car. There's a lot more to it than some of the typical marketing bullet points. The Diff, Brakes and Radiator alone are worth it. Yeah you may swap to 2 piece rotors, but the calipers are not going to hold you back.

Im' not sure.

The calipers are cheap enough 2nd hand. I would definitely do that. Radiator is ~300 but I would probably get something like a dual pass anyay.
The diff? What's the diff with the diff lol. The one I'm looking at haws 373 and I think its torsen but not sure.
Anyway, I will have to swap out the gears for a 409 since im putting in the Mag XL and that has totally different gears.
So, up to now, I don't see the value in spending about 10-12k more..

However, the abs calibrations and traction control calibrations are something that I'm extremely interested in. Is it programmable? Is it a matter of buying a new ABS unit? That's about the only thing up to now, that I would consider paying more the the PP car.
If I wasn't doing so much to it, for sure, I would want the PP car but 10K will buy you a bunch of stuff (coilovers, blower, etc)

AFAIK it's not programmable by anything available in the aftermarket unless you're on a standalone unit.

The PP diff is a 3.73 torsen. If you're actually seeing a delta of 10k then I don't blame you for not getting a PP. At the $3000-4000 delta in MSRP it's definitely worth it. You also get all the chassis bracing and lower control arms, which, while not expensive, is still something.

I would get a '17. With a 2018 manifold or GT350 manifold you'll have a great, high-revving engine. With cams and a CJ intake you can hit 500 whp NA without issue.

That's exactly it... I can get a 17 for 20k

Yes, its not my ideal color or PP, but the price is right.

Also, going back to the ABS- I wasn't thinking of going with a Bosch motorsports unit. I was just wondering if you get the 'special calibrations' by switching out the ABS unit from a PP car? Those things are dime a dozen, so if that's all it is - Im golden.
I would really like to know more about that...

Of course I would like to win, but I don't know how crazy that series gets...
I've seen some real fast cars, but when I look at the times, a lot of times they don't seem that fast. So I don't know.

I would definitely like to place well at One Lap.
The series is super fun and everyone is super cool.
I ran 3 events last year in the GT class and place 2nd and 5th twice, I came in 9th at the
at the end of the year Invitational in Las Vegas.
If you want to win your going to have to put serious cash into your car (motor, suspension, paint, body, interior, sound system....)
I have an R and I've put another 20k into it and still have a ways to go if I want to win Class Championship or the Invitational.
With that in mind, I would buy the cheaper Mustang and build it, your going to replace and/or upgrade everything anyways.
I would recommend coming to one of the Optima Events and checking it out next year, I'll be at Las Vegas, Pikes Peak and Fontana
if you want to chat.

Pikes Peak is close to me, so I would definitely like to check that out.
I didn't realize that they put so much emphasis on the looks, interior and sound.

I was hoping to throw some power at it and stick some meats on and drive the wheels of, but doesn't sound like that's the vibe there.

Either way, I'm gonna start with the 17 and go from there. I'm gonna decide whether to start with a blower right off the bat or do it later.
I think my upgrade path is chassis/suspension, IHE, and the transmission I have sitting around. If flex fuel is easy enough to do then I'll do that too and hopefully I'll be at 480whp or so.

When is the pikes peak event? I'd like to check that out.

Here's the event schedule for next year http://driveusca.com/events/
Register early because all the events sell out quick
Definitely put some power and tires on your car and come out, it's a blast PPIR is a awesome track.

Sorry I'm a little late responding here. Swapping out to a Bosch Motorsport M4 ABS unit will be rather difficult. They're pretty much meant for ground-up built race cars and won't play nicely at all with the rest of the modules in the car. Furthermore, calibrating your ABS is a really intense affair; when teams bought systems from us, they also had to pay for a full day of engineering support to get them dialed in (which is why we pretty much only sold them to pro/am teams in CTSCC, WTSCC, PWC, etc.).

All that being said, I'd be genuinely curious if swapping in a GT350/R ABS module might allow for more aggressive braking without intervention or a more "racey" feel.

No, I DO NOT want to swap out the motorsport ABS.
Absolutely not!

My question/inquiry was to the differences of the STOCK calibrations between the PP cars and the base cars.

PP lists as 'special calibration' for VSC and ABS.
I would really like to know what constitutes that variable?

Is it a different ABS module? Body computer?

Does anyone know?

I would love to!

What do you think my chances would be with just coilovers and a cobra jet/headers?
What tires do you use?

It seems they put a lot of emphasis on the looks and finish. I'm not sure if I can have everything cherried out by then. But for sure, I'd like to put some coilovers and at least make it breathe better.

Ah, apologies for my misunderstanding there. The special calibration is just different software that runs on the same ABS module (VSC and ABS all reside on one module). So mechanically speaking, you absolutely could drop a PP ABS unit into a non-PP car. The only problem would be that the rest of the modules would throw errors when they realize that the part number for the new ABS software doesn't match what it's expecting. One might be able to resolve this with Forscan or at a dealership.

Weird, but nobody seems to know!

I would like info how to do this..
Is it possible to flash new firmware onto my existing abs?

Flashing the module is probably harder than just replacing it with one from a wrecked PP car. The PP ABS calibration file isn't made readily available to the public. Yet again, might be something a dealership could help with if you ask the right person :)

Hard to say how well you would do, I don't know how much AutoX & track experience you have?
Here's the results from last year race at PPIR, you will be in the GT Class
https://clubregistration.net/clients/usca/results/overall.cfm?eventID=8668&class=GT

Here's your choice for tires, they have to be 200tw
I run Bridgestone RE-71 305/30/19, not much choice since I have 19" wheels

If you run 18"
BFG G-Force Rival S, they come in 335 and 315's
Falken RT615K+ the widest is 315
Here's a good review of the
https://www.autoxandtrack.com/falken-rt615k-plus-review/

Not all 200tw are approved
Ineligible tires for 2019 include Yokohama Advan A052, Kumho Ecsta V720 ACR, Federal 595RS-RR

Here's the rules for 2019
http://driveusca.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/USCA-2019-Rules_v19.3_final_update.pdf

Hope to see you out there,
Paul
