So I travel a lot for work but usually it's for just a week or 2 and maybe a month here or there. Due to a bigger state side mission coming up, I'll be traveling for a year to a year and a half this time. Car will likely have around 10k miles on it when I leave and I'll be visiting home at least every other month if not more. My question is if I take it for a spin on visits or leave it alone till I'm home for good? It'll be cleaned and car covered in a garage and on a battery tender while away and if driven during a visit, then I'll repeat the storage process. My main concern is the oil, I'm not going to want to change it at all on a visit because it's only a weekend at a time and the wife has boobs. I stored my last car in this way with zero visits for 9 months and just changed the oil when I got home. Being that this will be a little longer but I'll have the option to take it around the block a few times, I'm curious about your guys thoughts. Synthetic oil should be fine to sit and get me to my lift access 20 miles away for a change after a year and a half right?

The oil should be fine. I'd be more concerned about the gas. Ideally, you'd burn at least 1/4-1/2 a tank and fill it up before you leave every month.

Forgot about gas....Always fill it up as much as possible before any trip where not driving. Might be worth it to drive it on visits then. Fuel stabilizer?

Hhahahah I doubt this would be a good place to post boobs if she was even into it. Now I'm curious though, is there a mustang/hot chick thread? Go go search function!

So drive it when I visit home and don't worry about oil till I'm home for good a year and a half later is what I'm reading.

And keep the tank full of non-ethanol gas.

Yep, always top if off before even a week long travel, although 10% ethanol is near impossible to get away from.

If you go anywhere where there are a lot of boats it is usually easy to find non-ethanol gas. Museums sometimes put their long term storage cars on jackstands (under the suspension) to take the weight off tires and wheel bearings. When I didn't drive my car for a couple months the summer-only tires would get flat spots that took 20+ miles to go away.

The car needs to be started and ran for at least 30 mins every 30 days.

You can store it but letting cars sit like that causes the fuel to break down and eventually u start having all kinds of issues, tires cracking, hoses and belts rotting, electric connectors rotting, rusted fuel tanks etc.

Just have your wife drive the car once a month or ask a friend.

If u have to let it sit tape off the muffler and seal the intake, leave all the oil in it.

It Will start right up

The wife doesn't have mustang privileges till she treats her own car with a modicum of respect. And she doesn't know how to drive a manual.

If left on E, that increases the chance of condensation. It'll get driven every 60 days or so when I visit home. Tires and engine components will be fine I'm sure. It'll have fresh oil in it before I leave and then when I get home for good I'll put new oil in it asap. As others have recommended, I'll be sure to drive it 30+ minutes when I visit home and then top off the tank before parking. Thanks for your input!
