Has anyone faced this decision before? If I go with the ecoboost I will be tuning it and getting inter cooler and intake and it would have leather seats heated cooled better stereo etc....but that v8 is so tempting ....anyone with base can you comment on the cloth seats and if it's worth it to go with the ecoboost for the better interior .... Thanks
I came from a fully loaded EB. Now I have a base GT. Honestly I don't miss the bells and whistles of the premium package.

Thanks for all the replies guys....yeah I want the GT and I don't really need stuff like heated cooled seats ...especially since the cloth doesn't get hot in the summer like leather does....looks like GT might be the way to go especially if the base interior is still very nice

Having never driven anything except a GT with cloth seats--I'd say GT is way better! :p
But seriously; the cloth seats are quite nice and I don't plan to replace them until the sides wear from getting in and out too many times. I've had leather and it was nice but I've never minded cloth to even consider replacing it.
Also, the smaller-screen radio in my GT base w/PerfPack is perfect for my needs; my phone does all of the work for music and navigation anyway.

Good choice. Even after full bolt on and a tune on my EB, I still was wanting for more power. It just didn't make sense for me to drop 4k or so on a turbo kit. That same money can go towards a Whipple SC for my GT :D.

I don't even think there is a comparison. The Base GT is way more of a car IMO over the EB if you like performance. They Coyote just has a HELL of a lot more headroom for growth and seems to be quite a bit more reliable. If you do base, at least get it with PP.

What do you drive now and have you had a V8 before? Have you test-driven both yet?

I came from an FR-S and have never owned a V8, so I was dying for more power and of course I picked the V8. I don't regret it! But if you've had them before and it's still a question, then maybe the EcoBoost is right for you. Test drive them both and see. If I were buying a turbo four, it'd be a Civic 1.5T, not a Mustang. 42MPG and four doors.

Why get a base GT?

A loaded Premium Ecoboost with PP is what, 35k?

I paid 35k for my 16 Premium Performance Pack GT..

Shop around and get what you really want.

It depends on a few things.

People are saying that the GT is a much better performance car. I disagree. Its different. It really depends on what metrics and setting you are looking at. Stock for Stock the GT is much more powerful, but doesn't handle as well.

The EB has a more nimble front end. Its noticeably more balanced.

If you consider modifications, its not necessarily a clear issue.
An EB with PP can be had for around mid 25k. A GT with PP for around 33k. that's roughly 7 grand to play with. An EB is much more responsive to bolt on and tunes.
EB:
-Intercooler $600
-Custom tune -$500

These two mods alone could bounce your EB up 30 HP and 80 Torque.
Add in a Catch can, BOV, Exhaust, CAI, Bigger turbo and you are still under the 7 grand difference in price. Look at some of the results shops are getting with bigger turbos. 500+ hp measured at the wheels. Stock Coyote is under 400.

The downside to the EB is you are kissing your warranty away. But the above mods will leave you with a lighter, more nimble mustang that will have comparable acceleration and likely have superior low end torque. So if you autocross and you are ok with the warranty issue, this could be a better performing vehicle.

With the GT, bolts on's get you a lot less relatively. To get really nice gains you need to go forced induction. The coyote is pretty powerful out the gate, but is not that great for low end torque. It only comes alive above 3200 rpm. The useful power band for the stock EB is around 2000 to 5300 rpm.

This being said, I went from an EB to a GT and love it. I wasn't interested in rolling the dice with the mods, and had concerns about the long term viability of a 2.3L with a bigger turbo holding up in the long run in a fairly heavy car.

Also if you want leather seats and willing to change them yourself, you can get aftermarket Katzkins for $670-800 depending on options.

Thanks, yea I was also considering the fact the the ecoboost seems to lose its value quicker compared to the GT....probably because the engine is less reliable and the car is not as desirable for most ....down the road I would get more on a trade in for the GT which is something I need to consider

I think it has more to do with availability. The EB is more affordable, allowing more people to purchase them who always wanted a Mustang so the market has more saturation.
