Which you'd probably void with an aftermarket intercooler anyways :headbonk:
You really think an aftermarket intercooler is going to void a warranty? I seriously doubt it.

How would that discussion go...

Dealer: Well, we can't cover that because you have an upgraded intercooler. The charge air temps were too cool...

Idiots at my local dealer voided my warranty for aftermarket rear speakers and mufflers...

Yea, really... f trip....

They refused to fix the knocking in the front of the car because of those things... said my car was "modified". Then mentioned they did not know "what else could have been done".

And some other BS....

Yea, don't get me started on what happened after I contacted Ford (no help there....).

Can they void your warranty? You bet...

Will they? Depends on dealer.

One should always do their due diligence in trying to find A good dealership that will work with mods. But also remember that most dealerships can never be counted on to do the right thing or make it easier on your behalf. I am very interested to see how these tunes shape out.

I got a copy of the job aid (Aftermarket_Mods_Job_Aid_RevC_2) from my dealer that they use to determine if they will cover the repair under warranty. They gave me a copy unofficially when I bought the car to see what upgrades I can install. There is nothing about an intercooler.

I just googled the job aid and here is a link to a copy of that pdf file.

So, I would think that having an intercooler on the new Ford tune would be OK.

I already know about that... fact is I'm not going to sue over some BS like that -- I went to another dealer. I have a full-time job and a side business. Do I really want to get involved in meetings/emails and potential lawyers with court dates? No (and I get the "stand up for rights", etc.).

Luckily I'm in an area where I have access to 5 to 6 other dealers within an acceptable range.

My point was to say a dealer can't deny warranty for even the slightest mods is not 100% true. They can.

PRG3k is 100% correct - you have to find a dealer willing to work with you.

And be realistic that if you make changes, depending on what goes out, you could find yourself in a bad situation (dealer not willing to cover/Ford not helping).

For those with one car and few options, this can be a bad situation. People should plan for something like that to happen... not that it will.

That's scary. Bad piston rings, burnt to hell torque converters, melted cat backs, shot turbos, and twisted drive shafts. Hopefully just from overzealous boosters.

LOL that's up to the individual... They can't "void your warranty". They can refuse warranty service if a mod you've done may have contributed to the failure but your warranty is still intact. For example, if you replaced your stereo and blow your speakers and take the car in, they can refuse to replace the speakers because it is likely the new stereo caused the problem but it your AC goes out, the stereo didn't cause that. If the dealer/Ford refuses service, it's up to the individual to fight it using the court system and the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

Of course the dealer might try to refuse to do "free" work, they'd rather get paid. Most people are too uneducated to fight it so they can get away with it. Simply telling them you are going to do something or saying, "Magnuson-Moss" isn't going to scare them into doing the work. Taking them to court isn't cheap but if you have a strong case like I mentioned above or you put in a more efficient FMIC and your engine blew then you should fight it and winning can recoup your cost. Talk to a lawyer that is experienced with this. Hopefully common sense will guide you...

Dealerships get paid by Ford to do warranty work. It's not free. Most are just lazy and/or have shitty service departments.

Completely understand, I didn't mean that the dealer was doing it for free but the dealer is acting as an agent for Ford, they report what they see and Ford makes the determination if they will cover it under warranty. As an agent though, Ford expects them to identify issues where warranty service should not be offered.

You know what I mean... that is why I went to another dealer. I was simply using your wording the the jacked post you wrote.

We live in different worlds... I'm not going to get a lawyer and, more importantly to me, burn my time over $7000 (at the end, even if I win, won't be 7k). I can't explain it to you any clearer.

Luckily most people can simply go to another dealer. But to say the dealer has to do the work is simply not true. They can and do refuse. Period.

And if this is your only car and you must get to work... well....

At any rate off this "go no place" conversation.

Any additional quotes from dealers?

Boy you get easily hot and bothered. Maybe you should take a break from the internet a bit.
