Late Fall 2014, probably longer, WHY?

All the hoopla and no product for a year ➽

I'm not sure I wanna wait that long for it...I'll get something else to tide me over for now & maybe stick with it ➽

So, if & when a Mach, GT350 or whatever cool model they have planned for 2015/2016 comes around I'll take a look then...Sorry Ford, you won't make me go a year W/O a Fun car, life's too short...Hopefully, Ford will announce in the next few weeks, that it will be available late Spring or early Summer.

I would be thrilled if that were to happen. Unfortunately, all signs (and info) point to Sept+... :/

I'd rather they take their time and get any quality issues buttoned down than rush things and have problems.

I think they plan to unveil this car on April 2014 but due to pressure they unveil it early. So I wouldn't be surprise that the 2015 Stang will be on showroom floors late 2014.

I agree.. all these leaked photos and very close renderings got Ford nervous and made them to unveil months earlier than planned

The 2015 mustang is a big deal. They need to get all the issues worked out now. Not just for the U.S. but for the entire world. thats a lot of stuff to go wrong. Im sure we will get more info as time goes on and get pricing and final specs in april.

It sounds as if the original radical design was scrapped over 1 to exactly 2 years ago and because of these changes made, it was likely delayed a bit. According to an insider, they might've barely locked in the final design around this time last year, as "6 to 8 weeks" from October 5, 2012 was when that was scheduled.

Imagine if it was supposedly going to look somewhat like these:

Later scrapped in being too "radical" and development ending up back here in mid-2012:

Then the eventual S550 after the re-do in late 2012 (not actual representation):

It is not a shocker, that they cannot make an April 2014 launch. We're already lucky it hasn't been pushed back to 2015. Due to lead times, they possibly need at least 18 months from the "freeze" till start of production. That might now be in June, for a September 2014 launch. The S197 required at least required a design selection in late 2001 and a final freeze in July 2002 before September 2004 production, for an October 2004 launch.

Same as the 2010 redesign being initially sketched in 2005 and finalized in late 2006 for early 2009. They're already doing a great job working with the delays under 18 months and I'm sure we might hear more about this.

I think the meeting in Barcelona had something to do with the reveal date. They've had these meetings for a few years and since the Mustang is going into these foreign markets, they needed to be able to introduce it into the market and to their dealers at this mass European dealers meeting.

Just a guess.

my guess it isnt the leaks that pushed it but instead the desire to get the secrecy pressure off them prior to april so they can continue testing without camo and having to play cat and mouse with spy shooters.... and in april present final details: pricing, options, on sale date, etc

I think the better question is more why did they reveal it so early ahead of availability? I think its obvious why production will be that much later as they are just not ready with the car yet. You can tell based on the state of the spy photos and how little it seems to have been caught in the open testing. The one time they did they got caught and we all found out what the nose would look like.

My thinking is they were having such a hard time trying to keep it completely secret AND test it at the same time that they decided to push up the reveal so they could focus on better things than dodging spy photographers.

Traditionally, new model years come out in September. Ford has been releasing Mustangs earlier and earlier it seems (February, March, it's pretty crazy). I think Ford is just trying to get back to a standard release cycle with the new one.

Maybe they're looking for public feedback to make some minor changes prior to production.

What we see is what we will get and that will be in April 2014.

I agree with your theory, as that is very valid. Not sure why my own theory doesn't exactly hold weight with many here, as both scenarios are the most plausible. Having already become a little bit behind in development, some inconveniences may have probably arisen regarding secrecy.

They are certainly not focused on making anymore same model year changes, based on public feedback. I'd say it's too late for that and would be withheld until at least MY2017, unless crucial to product launch.

Coupes will be available in spring '14, convertibles are late '14. Ford's site is incorrect.
