Wait to drive a 2015 and then decide. Enjoy the 2005 as is for now. Don't dump anymore money into the 05 until you know what you want to do.

Someone could crash into your 2015 the day you buy it.
I think that's exactly his point.

My advice: it sounds like you are already mentally walking away from the 05 before you have even seen the 15. I agree with others that you should stop pouring money into it then. Wait to see how you feel after getting into a 15. It's going to get harder and harder to resist when prices start dropping on 15's too. Save up the extra pennies in case you change your mind.

People here should stop trying to make purchase decisions on a car they've never had the opportunity to drive yet.
Do you really have any doubts that the 2015 will not be the best-ever driving experience for a Mustang GT?

I know we don't have hard proof yet, but if ever there were a sure thing, I don't see how this car can miss...

I ordered my 2005 GT sight-unseen, only going by some magazine tests. It has turned out to the best car purchase I have ever made. I feel fully confident, even without a single one being built yet, that the 2015 is going to live up to the hype.

not to jack the OP thread, but Im almost in the same boat as him, I have a 2008 GT but my car has about 80K miles on it, and its "moderately" modded (Long tubes, CAI, tuner, O/R X pipe, axle backs, and 4.10's) and it has been doing that rapid clicking noise in the dash when turning on the A/C or switching from floor vents to defroster etc. (if you dont know what im talking about or havent heard it before, youtube 2008 dashboard knocking) To get the part fixed is about $325. Everything about the A/C works just fine other than the noise that goes on for about 5 seconds. plus ive only had the car for less than a year, and will most likely go upside down on it when trading it in. So question is, is it worth it dishing out the money to get the dash thing fixed before trading it in? Would it take away from the value of the car enough to warrant getting it fixed before trade-in?

The new Mustang appears to be a great car, but I don't recommend trying to trade in your current one if you're going to be upside down on it. In my experience that just starts a downward spiral that's hard to get out of. Spend the $325 to fix your car, drive it and enjoy it for a while, until you at least get some equity in it, then re-assess. The new Mustang will still be waiting for you when you're ready...

Believe me, I'm just as excited as everyone else about the new car. I'm just doing my damndest not to show it and trying to be as pragmatic as possible. There is always going to be that guy who isn't fully thrilled about the new car. Getting to drive the car will not only tell you how it performs(as all the specs and designs says it will perform very well), but also how the car looks and feels from behind the driver's seat. Afterall this is a car some will be spending upwards of $40,000 to buy, it had better make them happy. Just being fast isn't enough.

Im wondering how long it will be before the ordering banks open up that someone like Car and Driver get their hands on the new mustang and take it for a spin. Im hoping they get the chance to drive it before i can order it, just to reassure me this car is going to perform as well as Ford says it will. I'm sure it will be after the final numbers are published because we all know as soon as they get their hands on one, they will throw it on a dyno im sure.

So I need advice although I know I have to do what I think is best in the end. I have a 2005 GT that's at 55,000 miles and is well modded.
-CAI and tune, UD pulleys, Exhaust, shifter, aluminum drive shaft, 300 rwhp 310 rw torque
-Koni shocks, steeda springs, camber plates, rear control arms, steeda ball joints, bump steer kit, steeda wheels
-a few interior pieces painted
-painted stripes

It's my first Mustang but I want to keep sentimental value out of the equation because I don't believe it's good to be attached to a material object that could be destroyed by any idiot that happens to crash into me.

If I keep the car I want to put in a Tremec Magnum XL but I don't know about spending $6k on a car that has 55k miles on it.

I know that we don't know all the specs yet but with the improvements to the suspension on the 2015 I wonder if the new one will handle better than mine without changing anything. I know it will pull a lot harder. My two main concerns are that it won't be any lighter and it will be a fortune. I will only get a base GT with a track pack but there's no way I'll pay 40 grand for it.

If I get a new one it will be for track fun and weekend driving only. I do love the look of the new car. I think both the S550 and S197 look great.

Any thoughts to make my decision more complicated would be helpful. :D
Trade in the 2005 for a new Z/28. Rumor is that they're gonna be the fastest street car around this year.

I'm a Ford guy. I could never buy Government Motors. I figure since I'm a taxpayer that I own just a little bit of every GM product anyway. LOL

Is there any possibility you could keep the 2005 and still swing the '15?

I would exhaust all my avenues on this decision man... I have regretted selling every Mustang I ever sold. I am picking up a '16-'18 and keeping the modded '11...

^This. You never get your money back out of mods, and they sometimes reduce value. Decide how long you'll keep the '05 before you do ANYthing optional to it (maint = not optional).

If you decide on 2 years, spend on mods the amt you don't mind taking a bath on at the end if that time.

Your purchase of the '05 is a sunk cost - can't do anything about it. All you can do now is make intelligent decisions about future spending.

Exactly...unless you are very well off, trading in every year unless leasing, is going to hurt your wallet.

Not to imply that Ford would do things similar to GM, but I followed the C7 launch closely and the timeline was something like this:

-Reveal @ Detroit Auto Show
-Details from GM are released and the National Vette Museum Bash in April (I believe)
-First Drives in all the magazines at the end of July
-Order guides show up in August I believe (can't remember exactly when)
-Deliveries were in Octoberish

Ford is pretty close to this schedule for release, and they have said that something exciting is going to happen in April, and we know that cars are intended to be available in Fall, so the timeline is similar to the Vette's.

So, hopefully we'll get more details in April (things like final HP numbers, weight, etc), and then some Mag reviews by July.
