Ive got a 2018 ecoboost with a 9 speaker setup and I'm looking to replace some of the speakers for better lows. I listen to a wide variety of music genres and my kids pick the music when they ride in the back, so I'll need something that'll perform good, not necessarily great, across each one. I'll eventually look to add a sub, but for now I'm just concerned with drop ins.

I'm thinking about replacing the door woofers with a pair of Hertz C 165 L, and the rear deck speakers with a pair of Focal ACX 165.

Would I need to replace the amp for these to work properly? Are these good options for drop in upgrades?

I also plan on sound deadening the doors when I swap the speakers and adjusting the bass rolloff.

sorry not sure if those will fit or not.

I usually check out crutchfield.com. Put in your car, and they will show what will drop in without any modification.

Good choice on Focal though, if they do fit.

Thanks. I got them from the crutchfield list as compatible speakers. The powerbase were the only ones that "fit best" however.

Yes you need a new amplifier for those speakers to work properly. Your factory speakers are 2 ohm and your new ones are 4 ohm.

Sorry to ambush this thread - low forum experience....don't know how to ask a new speaker Q.

While retrieving something from the trunk of my new to me 2015 GT Prem today I heard a soft crackling sound from the big speaker on the inside right side of the trunk. Sounded like the speaker was powered, but everything seemed to be shut off on the dash. Concerned about battery drain. Thoughts ?

Folks saying this won't work, will sound worse, etc., just isn't 100% accurate. First, these are opinions, not facts. Replacing just the speakers did wonders for my car. Will it win a "competition"? Of course not. But, it absolutely improved the sound, in my opinion, as well as my wife's. Before I made the change, she had commented on how poor the sound was in stock form, and actually encouraged the upgrade, which had never happened before! 😁

OP, just remember you asked what would work "properly," and everyone has their own definition (opinion) of what that means. Btw, I also had the 9-speaker system... Replaced with some moderately priced Alpines (all except center, which I disconnected) and added a small sub. A real nice improvement, which made it much more listenable to me. Would adding an amp help? Of course. Is it necessary? Nope, not for me.

I've noticed this, too. I think when doors or the TRUNK is opened, there's some energy in the system for a few minutes. It's not likely a problem.
