I caught the end of the NHRA 4wide nationals today. Wonder if y'all did.

John Force, 72 won the Funny car group of the event today. I can't find the interview online that he gave post race, but if you know the guy, it was a good interview.
If you follow NHRA drag racing, the world is a better place because of John Force. The guy is the MJ, the Brady, the Babe Ruth of drag racing. The guy make this 60yr old feel young. I hope he lives forever.

The first 60 starts of John Force’s illustrious career were behind the wheel of a Chevrolet product. From 1978-80 he raced a Corvette before switching to a Citation (1981-82), Camaro (1983-84), Corvette (1985), and then a Cavalier (1986). Force won the 1994 NHRA Funny Car championship racing a Chevy Lumina to a 50-8 record, 11 finals, 10 wins, and 12 No. 1 qualifiers.



There was a time, he'd explode the motor and end up on fire, 40% of time raced.
The man rides the edge of a razer blade, one of the things that makes him so interesting.

The man is a freak of nature. To still have the reaction time at age 72 is truly amazing. Only needs 18 years to catch Hershel McGriff.

It's common knowledge that top fuel and top alcohol classes run a 426 hemi based engine, no matter what the shape of the fiberglass shell looks like on top. Also they all run a ford 9" derived rear axle. When you get to the top classes, everybody runs the same thing, then it's all driver skill and the tune.

Well I didn’t know that. 😁👍. I’m not really into drag racing though.

The heads are the hemi .. pro classes use various blocks. Folks like the Force team machine raw heads to individual specs.

Dodge being the only true thoroughbred.

The parts are interchangeable between all the machined blocks.

Many, many years ago Force wanted to make a ford based engine and NHRA slapped him down.

I've been a Mopar guy since the 1960's only switched to ford when the coyote came about.

I have been following John Force since before he became a dominant driver in Funny Car. First saw him live at the Spring Nats. in Ohio, have a signed poster of him with the GTX Olds. T-Shirts all the good stuff. Circa 1990. Damn time flies.

The modern top fuel engines have nothing in common and nothing interchanges with a classic hemi. The biggest reason they went with the hemi design is they had the most power potential out of everything else that was available in the late sixties/early seventies.
