Which is the better choice for a 2019 GT? It looks like the Roush is better enclosed to keep engine heat out but the JLT seems to be the more popular choice.

Do they both need to be paired with a tune?

Thanks

Yes, both do need a tune. I would stick with your stock intake though and tune it with a drop in filter. Best bang for the buck. That intake is already rather large on the 18+ and you aren't going to see much of a gain aside from it.

Add a drop in and call it a day. Spend the $ you just saved on the cai on a flex or e85 tune and get alot more for your $.

We've been using JLT intakes on all of the Lethal builds for many years with great results. Roush is also a very nice intake. Just comes down to personal preference on which one you like the looks of the most. You'll need a tune for either of them.

We offer both intakes packaged along with devices and custom tunes from the top calibrators in the industry and you save by purchasing it as a package as opposed to purchasing each part individually.

Give us a call if you have any questions and we'll be glad to assist you.

I agree with the individuals who stated keep the stock airbox and replace the stock air filter with a washable panel filter (i.e. Airaid, AFE or AEM). If you are heart set on obtaining an aftermarket intake for the looks under the hood, then either the JLT or Roush is a good choice. Although, the Roush does not require a custom tune according to Roush's website. Honestly, a custom tune will make the biggest difference with regards to driveability and performance.

The reason I am using a 2018 version of the JLT is because the Steeda didn't work well with the Flex Fuel tune and the 18 JLT fits well to the 18 manifold while having a 120MM tube. I do however have a stock 2018 intake that I can use and I'm highly tempted to get a drop in filter and do that, but I'll see how the JLT handles the summer heat. So far so good with it.

I have the Roush on my '15 and chose it for the near-OEM look and fit. The JLT is, um, less than OEM looking and fitting but functional (had one on my GT500). The Roush uses a MAF insert for a no-tune situation, or you remove it and tune. Zero complaints with my Roush CAI.

Based on what I've read on the board though, the OEM airbox on the '18-up cars is a decent piece with a drop-in filter as others have mentioned here....

Don't need a tune for the Roush if you run the insert. That said, I felt like it gave me loss of low end torque when I ran it. Went back to stock with a see drop in dry filter.

Will a 2018 OEM air intake fit a 15-17 and if so, is there any benefit? Sorry for the noob question but I am still learning about these Mustangs.

Yes, it will fit but you will probably need a tune due to the tube size being bigger. Haven't tested it myself but it does fit.

The ROUSH CAI does “not” require a tune. PBD said that the 2018+ has a good factory CAI already & the only 2 aftermarket CAI’s that they’ve seen gains with are the JLT & the PMAS & it’s only 5-8 hp. Not worth $350.

According to AM the JLT with tune made 24+ hp whereas the Roush made 32+hp. Not much of a difference and could be related to the tune or conditions. Also the roush is like 100$ more so it’s really whether or not 100$ is worth maybe 8 hp to you.

I’d like to see what it gets with just a tune on the stock intake before changing it. Can’t imagine it’s enough of a difference to justify spending $400.
