I'm doing all the service myself for the first time on any of my vehicles, I'll be doing it around 1200 miles. My questions are:

1) what weight jack stands should I get? I know it deals with curb weight but idk if the jacks should add up to that weight or each one should support the curb weight alone or what.

2) What brand jack is good?

3) Does anyone have a PDF or images of where the jack and jack stands should be placed and oriented?

1. 2K's will be fine, but I've seen some great deals on 3K's that I'd like to pick up.
2. Any brand you'd recognize should suffice. Cheaper brands will probably be more likely to develop hydraulic leaks and fail on you. Craftsman is probably your best bet, though pricier.

:)

*edit* I saw a 2K jack stand/floor jack by AC Delco at Kmart a few days ago on sale for $35. Almost got it but decided to against it on that day.

I love Harbor Freight for my cheaper sockets and things I consider consumables. Jack Stands would probably be fine, but I'd still invest in a good floor jack.

+1 vote on the Pittsburgh 3T from harbor freight. I'd recommend getting the following items also:

1) From Harbor freight: Jack cross beam. http://www.harborfreight.com/steel-floor-jack-cross-beam-60762.html

This will span your rear IRS frame and make lifting the rear of the car easy so you can lower it on to your jack stands [placed at the sides of the car at the notched jacking points]. I don't recommend jacking using your differential. Be aware that the HF cross beam may not fit non-Pittsburgh jacks. I actually have two jacks now - I leave one set up with the spanning beam and one without. It saves setup time.

2) I have flat top jack stands and did not want to damage the pinch weld at the side of the car. I bought these notched rubber pucks from Amazon to set on top of the metal jack stand to save my paint.

My steeda jacking rails should be here tomorrow. Used ZL1 pinch weld Jack pads for first oil change.
