I would get some jacking rails. :)

First mod for me was the Steeda Jacking Rails. First time I have "worked" on a car in 25 years maybe so I wanted to start simple and get some success under my belt.
Do you have any pics of them installed?

I have been using the points shown on the first picture and the pinch welds for the jack stands.

Don't drop the car down hard and fast on them and all will be well.

From the day there was a differential and a jack, cars have been jacked at the diff. Just don't put it under the cover and you'll be perfectly fine. There's absolutely zero reason to need, jacking rails, at all.

Not really. Installed them while the Stang was on the ground. Meaning not a lot of room. You can't see them once installed. Check out Steeda or CJ Pony Parts for videos and pics.

it has an engine!
This is not an irs designed with being a jacking point in mind. You can cause massive damage to a vehicle. Only a fool will use this as a jacking point based on assumption that since solid axle can do it this should too. Most irs are not designed to be a jacking point. You can snap your cradle bolts and or damage your differential too, among other things . They cannot support almost 3/4ths the cars weight on those bolts. I fixed more than my fair share while at ford from people that thought it was okay for the terminators.

Steeda FTW!

They are a small investment that are easy to install & will pay dividends throughout the ownership of the car!

Here are a couple pictures of the units installed:

Still 10% off during our Veterans Day Sale ... they are a must have!

Pinch weld points and hydraulic jacks

I wanted to use my low riding hydraulic jack at the pinch weld points.
I agree that the actual pinch weld points are just indicators where a lift should be located. A typical hydraulic jack uses a cup rather than a slotted piece as found on the factory jack.
I bought block of EPDM plastic (rated at multi-ton). I cut a slot in the block top just wide enough to slip up over the pinch weld, and just deep enough so that the pinch weld is not actually supporting the car. The slotted block keeps the pinch weld secure on the jack. Then I slide jack stands under the support spots shown on the photo.
