...and ended with a new long block.

Driving to work 3 weeks ago the car started running rough and I got a CEL. It cleared 30 seconds later. On the way home it did it again but didn't clear. Took it into Ford who diagnosed a misfire on #7. Further testing showed little compression and a borescope inspection revealed a scored bore and minor damage to the piston. As it turns out, so I was told, the gudgeon/wrist pin was faulty causing the piston to contact the head. It was only minor contact and was possibly contacting for some time which eventually caused the failure, there was never any noise from the engine.
Anyway, I ended up with a new engine. Ford say this is the first time they've seen this, has anyone heard of this happening before?

Cheers
Paul

I haven't heard any issues related to faulty wrist pins especially on a stock Mustang (assuming yours is either stock or lightly modified).

It's a good thing its still under warranty!

Should've mentioned that, completely stock in regard to the engine. I've never heard of it at all, and I've been playing with cars, and involved in sprintcar racing for 30+ years.

And yes, the warranty is a wonderful thing!!!
