I noticed this at discount tire while I was getting my tire patched. Is this normal for such a new car? I've only got about 1,200 miles.

Theres some on top of the rear caliper and where the axel/boot meet.

I was amazed at how nasty mine looked two days after bringing it home. The rear and axles are covered in rust.

Mine are too. Other than corrosion preventative compound every three days not much you can do about it :-/

Haha, you guys are so weird about these cars....

It's normal like on every other car you've owned, but for some reason notice on these.

WAY more rust on parts on this Ford than other cars/trucks I've owned. IMO, Ford doesn't do a good job of designing for rust prevention on the under carriage.

Not exactly man. I've had a Tacoma, Tundra, and Camry and they did not have this. The Camry I traded in had about 110k miles and it didn't have it either. I always have a look when I'm getting the tires rotated and rebalanced and I would've noticed surface rust on the calipers or axles. I could be wrong but I could go look at the trucks tomorrow. That's why I was a bit surprised to see it on such a new car lol

If it's just normal surface rust then I'm not going to worry too much about it. Houston doesn't get cold enough for us to use salt that much in the winter anyways.

Yeah you guys are right....

After wrenching for a long time for a living never saw unpainted axle shafts or bushing sleeves with surface rust. Only a Ford thing.

My '12 didnt have this much rust when it was traded in. I didnt expect the center section to be a raw finish.

By the way, you Dennis' buddy? Recognized the picture in the signature.

Center section on your 12 was raw also. As far back as 91, they where unpainted.

You see more on these because there are more fasteners and little parts. Each one rusts. On the earlier, it was one big chunk. It did rust.

Completely normal. Rust forms a protective coating, believe it or not. Short of a chemical (salt, acid, etc) causing it to keep getting worse, it'll be ok.
