So you just connected the focals in place of the factory? What is the RMS on those? If they are very high you would blow them with distortion at higher volume and under-amping them. Correct me if I'm wrong but you should probably have started out with an amp that accepts high level inputs (or a dsp to an amp) from the factory head unit and ran that out to a set of crossovers? I have a base and have been studying on installing a component set.

They are rated @ 70rms.

If you installed the Focal cross-over with the component speakers, it has adjustable levels for the Tweeter, so you could have adjusted the level to your listening preference (-3dB, 0dB and +3dB).
