Hi guys,

So i read somewhere that the remote starter is a default factory item for the 2015 Automatic Mustangs, no matter which version.

I have paid $499 for my remote starter and my Mustang IS Automatic. The thing that made me suspicious is, i can't find the remote starter antenna and the controller for it is in the car's key itself and not in a separated controller. Those two things suggest this was built in the factory and not in the dealership as my salesmen stated. On top of that, there are configurations for the remote starter in the car's computer... Very strange...

Can you guys please confirm this information? Also, i live in Canada so i am not sure if this may be different in the US.

Thanks

In Europe we don't have remote start at all so there is a possibility it's a paid addon in Canada.

If I'm not mistaken, remote start and keyless entry is standard on all automatics. The only reason I can see you paying extra is because you have a v6 and that tends to be more of a base model.
Someone with more knowledge should chime in here as well.

Yea it''s standard on all automatics and I'm pretty sure I've seen someone from Canada say they use it

Did you see my link above? Maybe they installed one of those - which is over and above the factory remote start. In which case you can start your car from anywhere using the cell phone app.

I'd download the app to start - it will probably prompt you with whatever info is needed. Thing is, this is a subscription service - though I think the first year is included with the purchase - I can't really see them installing this without you asking, but is all I could think of. I'd definitely get in touch with the dealer and find out what is up.

Lol. Sorry to say buddy, but you got scammed. Automatics come standard with auto-start. The price you pay for the automatic alone, comes with the 6 speed select shift transmission, steering wheel paddle shifters and remote start system. Your salesman made you wait another day, while the car sat in the parking lot the entire day. The extra $499 went straight into his pocket, pure profit.

That is exactly what he paid the $499 for it. Useless gimmick and totally overpriced IMO.
Overpriced, maybe. But far from useless in Canadian winters when you have a 15 minute walk from your office to your car.

Question is, if this is what was installed, why would they do it without be asked to? Starting to lean towards dealer trying to pull a fast one.

Ok, i can now confirm that this is not what i paid for, I installed the app and it asks for a SIM card number and PIN, this SIM card is what the software uses to communicate with the car from a distance.

I do not have this SIM card at all, i am now pretty sure this was a scam!

EDIT: Unless the guy is so incompetent that the dealership installed this and he failed to tell me or to give me the SIM card info...

If you don't mind me asking, which dealership was this?

Go ahead and ask them for the SIM card and Pin number. When they deny that, tell them you paid $499 for the remote start and you require the information for your app. When they tell you its just your fob, then thats when you question them. I would Demand your $499 back.
