Is my engine done for!!!!

Hey, I got a 23’ gt. It’s only got headers, e-85 and tune but I’m gettin a lot of backfire at low rpm after de acceleration. I went side exit and I’m wondering if rob’s tune could play into that at all ? It’s been tuned by the previous owner and all I get thru scanning is p0172 also it is telling me my misfiring reader is bypassed or disabled I’m just curious if the side exits could be amplifying it or what direction I should head or is my engine fried and I should look for a new one . In the video it’s just a nasty burble sound on de accel (I don’t believe it’s an exhaust leak) but the car pops and backfires a lot

Why do you think your engine might be fried? Is it just the sound of the exhaust that worries you? I'm guessing headers with side exit is contributing to this sound but I'm no expert. Side exit exhaust could also be bringing the exhaust sounds to your ears more. Are you running a resonator? Do you have an H or X pipe? What is rob's tune?

As far as what direction to head next I would be looking at getting that tune replaced by someone like Wengerd who can help you datalog to iron out the kinks so you know it's running well. I would also be looking at how to modify the exhaust system to dial in the sound to where I wanted.

Hi yes sorry just reading that over and I left out The car was tuned by the previous owner tuned by rob shoemaker I don’t have the hand held device or any of that just got in contact with the previous owner and he told me what was done to the car also it has a H pipe.

What’s concerning me is the fact my cars making such a weird noise as you can see and hear in the video it’s a noise hard to explain I’ve got another video of it as well.

I was looking into getting retuned and getting the hand held device but just want to know if I should go towards looking for a new engine or if it’s fine and just needs a retune!!

I have no idea this is my first mustang and a buddy told me it’s hard to know when these engines are hurt as they still act normal idk if that’s true or not

I mean, even with stock exhaust you will get the patpatpatpatpat pop sound as you decel coasting in gear, especially 1st and 2nd gear. And if you have gutted your exhaust system of course it will be louder

That was with the old owner you have to starts over, you are going to have to pay at any rate so pay him so he can get it fixed. That's correct you have made mods to it so the current tune won't work, and everyone has to pay to play,

When one of my cars made that sound, it was all in the exhaust pipe. The engine was fine.
