I have a single turbo coyote project in the works that will be aimed at 1500whp ran through a TH400. I've searched and searched but no luck in finding specs on differentials for guys running these power levels. The ones I do see are running a 9 inch, but I'm wondering if anyone has the experience running higher power on an iron 8.8.

Even Chevy people use a Ford 9 inch for peace of mind. Good friend put a Strange housing one in his '57 Bel Air. Kinda like Ford guys using a TH400. Some parts are just the best at what they do.

I’ll tell you the issues I’ve seen. First hand experience btw, bent diff bolts after about 20 passes, broken spider gears, and broken diff bolts. This particular car cut 1.1x 60s at 4000 lbs race weight. If you have the means, get the 9”. It will save you headaches in the long run.

Wow. Bent differential bolts. That would seriously ruin my day. Dont think I've ever seen that.

9 inch also has a feature that no other rear end has, a bearing for the nose of the pinion gear. Reduces weirdness from torque load, which is where a lot of failures start.

1.1 60s at 4k, how much power was it making, that is fast.

The car made 1600 on 35 pounds of boost. When he cuts that 60 he’s leaving at 4K rpm, and the boost ramp is set to .5 seconds all in at 25 psi. If I had to guess, about 1400 wheel.

Appreciate the input. The goal is about 1400 wheel and leaving off a transbrake so I guess I'll do it right the first time.

The aluminum diff gave out around 700wheel for me but the iron is holding at 900wheel but I can not see it holding 1400 for long

What was the rest of the setup? I am close to 900 wheel and have made probably a dozen or so passes on the aluminum.

I guess my aluminum diff is on borrowed time. I am adding the diff support in spring.

I have seen aluminum diff’s go higher than mine did. Mine started howling very loud. I had the diff on solid mounts and support in place. Maybe i was just unlucky but my iron diff was only $300 shipped so not a big deal

We have a 20 pass rule. Chunk comes out new diff, new diff bolts and fluid obviously.
