I'm no CFD guy but I agree, opening up the tract after the small grille opening would seem to address the issue but at the wrong choke point. "Seem" being the word in question.

Regarding the grille ducting, here are a couple of shots of mine as I pulled the piece to drill a few holes and to clearance for a tow bracket.

Yes, the blue filter is from FRP.

And I thought the hood to airbox seal was a fairly good one. I'll take a closer look.
It's a 2 piece gasket with seams - who knows what it looks like with the hood down? Here's a money idea: make a thermal pad which fits within the gasket area and mount it to the hood to prevent intake air exposure to that hot, highly conductive aluminum hood.

So the lower grill opening is definately required for adequate cooling? So dont block it off with a license plate or so...

. . . The funnel- will increase the flow velocity and/or air density, which generally makes more power.

. . . but the ambient air . . . is getting faster and more dense as it continues to be constricted as it flows in.
Zombo: Increased velocity, yes. But density remains the same.

And, fwiw, even if you are a structural engr., yours is still my favorite avatar.

I like to disassemble things.

I have a pretty good idea of what it consists of. I was talking about looking at how well it seals. I have a flexible inspection camera and if I can snake it into position I should be able to check it out.

Thanks! Not structural, my specialty is Electronics and Opto-mechanical Packaging.

On the GT350, the IAT runs around 7 degrees higher vs ambient temp at WOT, which is a pretty low spread. The E92 M3, which has a completely sealed intake (and one of the most clever designs) was also about the same spread, so judging from this not sure how much better cooling you can get by completely sealing the filter from the hood or adding more grill ventilation. The air is also hitting the coolers, which are deflecting air into the snorkels so not sure how much really more cooling/power would be gained.

Agreed, we already have all the necessary gauges to monitor IAT vs. ambient air temp, not much different in my driving.

It might be the most wind tunnel tested BUT they didn't do a very good job with the hood flapping at speeds over 50mph.
