Please post your PP3 experience in regards to pinging back here.
Happy to do so, can you offer some more context about this issue?

Is this pre-detonation? Is it well known/documented?

Are you suggesting that the PP3 be stayed away from?

I've never heard of anyone having pinging issues with the pp3 because of how it's set up. Plenty of people have had ping on the pp2 kit though. That one adds more borderline timing at lower rpm which can cause knock.

Is that generally related to fuel quality/octane of choice?

I have a hard time believing Ford would sell tunes with pre-ignition/detonation issues under optimal circumstances.

I am all ears though.

You do need to run 91 octane at a min and it really needs 93.

Borderline tables are set for 91

There’s going to be atleast one tank ran at 91 (it’s what’s in there).

I know 93 is the general preference. Have people experienced the pinging running 93 as well?

One or 2 on this board but I think they had other problems. If you read your owners manual it states under some conditions you may hear detonation and not to worry. The FRPP tunes just make it more likely.

Huh, interesting.

I’ll have to pull my spark plugs and verify condition/gaps as well to pull one of the variables out of the equation.

Y’all have began to sell me on GT350 intake with wiring adapter instead of the PP3.

It's car specific, k4fxd outlined it pretty well. 91 is the minimum with these tunes and some cars experience more knock than others. It's like the stock tune and 87 octane, some will ping and some will not. It's not harmful though, just annoying. The computer won't let it happen under say full load or WOT, it's got good safety precautions built in. Part throttle in hot weather is where you're most likely to see it.

Mine even pinged sometimes with the 18+ power pack despite it being far less common on that one. But I'm high up with only shitty 91 available lol

That’s reassuring. Thanks for letting me pick your guys’ brains.

Next question: I have no issue throwing cooler range spark plugs at the car if that’ll prevent this. Has that been a potential solution for some?

Harmless or not, I’m spending all this cheddar and my time fixing the IMRC issue I’d like to be at-least as good as before running wise!

I like one heat range cooler plugs in performance applications I also like the eco boost plug gaps.

The 4 banger eco boost plugs are what I run.

One person on here did fix their knock with one range colder plugs that I've seen.

Good intel, I’ll need to install and see what occurs.

I don't think you'll have a problem. As I said, PP3 adds gains in the top half of the range instead of mostly the lower half like the PP2. Not many people have done PP3 (cost), but I've never seen a single complaint on here. Most people absolutely love it.

Cost is right, $1750 out the door is ridiculous for a CAI, .3in increase in throttle body diameter and some taller runners.

It’s the game I have to play as a CA resident unfortunately.

The vendor I bought from is back ordered until the 30th. I have time to sit and evaluate this purchase in the meantime.

Truthfully I’d go all in on an ESS set up OR just lock the IMRC out if smog wasn’t an issue here but oh well.
