I have been on my parents insurance since I was 16 years old (I'm 25 now). I am going to put my 2018 on an insurance policy by itself (with Geico my parents use it as well). My EDD is 1//11 so when should I call and get a quote? And get it added to its own insurance policy? I'm thinking I'll call the day before or the day of before I drive it off the lot?

If they don't mind you being on their insurance, I'd recommend keeping it because it'll jump on your own (but not quite as bad seeing as you've hit 25 already).

Most companies nowadays you can do it all online and set the date the coverage begins, so use your delivery date for the coverage start.

Always shop around though.

Why not just call them now to get a ball park of everything. Let them know your about to buy a potential new car. You can even give them a Vin # of a car on the lot that has similar features to see potential impact. Then once you get the car upadte the information.

Shop around. No need in paying more if you can get it for less.

the last two times I bought cars I went down to the office one day before I go pickup the car, the office is like five minutes walk from where I live so I just go there in person. Also I'm using state farm not so sure about how efficient geico is, but state farm usually gets everything sorted out in 10 minutes for me. I might do the same this time as well.

I'm going to get a quote staying on their insurance vs my own. And we'll go from there. Geico is actually a little over $100/month on my own. Progressive wanted over $200/month. And Gecio has accident forgiveness for my accident that happened.

Quotes are only good for 14 days at Geico, so do it no more than 14 days before your delivery.

I use Geico and their rates are pretty good. It's about $108 a month with a $500 deductible on collision where I am and that also includes mechanical breakdown insurance. I could lower it more by raising that deductible and removing the mechanical breakdown but I chose not to. I'm 33 years old.

Just be glad you're 25. If you were 20 or younger, you'd get killed on a quote.

Also, if you have any amount financed, the bank will want to see it covered by insurance most likely the day you drive it away. If you're paying cash, you'll just want coverage for legal reasons the day you drive it off. Can't hurt to do some insurance shopping right now, but Geico has treated me well for years.

I think it depends more on where you live than how old you are. With all of the hurricane claims happening in south Florida and the fact that I live in a shitty zipcode with higher fraud/accidents/trailer park per capita than the gentrified upper middle class zipcode where I grew up, I actually pay more now than I did when I was 24, 27 now.

That does play a factor into it. If I was quoted for Travis county instead of Williamson county, I guarantee my quote would have been higher for greater Austin rather than north Austin.

Age does play a factor into it when it's for male drivers at least. My insurance dropped a good chunk at 25 even with a clean record. I'm sure there's some ridiculous formula they created for it along with cost of parts.

NC doesn't have bad insurance premiums at all. You will probably be okay on your own. Just shop around for insurance, there are tons of companies out there to give you the best rate.

At 25, I pay 200$ a month for full coverage on my 16 Gt and my 16 Silverado with fire and theft on the tangerine 96 Gt, all through motorist mutual. No complaints. When I had my 08 Bullitt I was going to go through hagarty since I never drove it, but I Never persued it.

That's cheap. Ohio must be uneventful. My quote for full coverage (100/300/50kPIP/$500 deduct) on an 18 GT plus my Jeep on liability only is $150 a month through the Gecko. Cheapest option around here. I think the Mustang on its own would be about $110.

Stacie, you will always save when drivers use the same company and share the same address. If that is your situation now, then don't waste your time shopping around. It will only confirm that you are good now. Just call in with your VIN the day before you pick up your car, and cancel the policy on your old car.

Geico is a good insurance company, with competitive coverage and rates, plus their customer service is painless.

Yeah, I got hit with a (wait for it) 175% increase in my premium so I had to jump to another carrier. All due to Harvey.

If I factor in inflation my insurance is still slightly less than it was when I was 24 but it's more expensive relative to the penalties.

Today, I pay around $2400 a year, with one at fault and no tickets.
When I was 24 I paid $1500 a year with three tickets and an at fault accident.
