I've been reading a few insurance related threads here today, and noticed that for my insurance.....

So, I decided to call around and see if I could get a lower rate. Every damn time I called a random insurance company, they were able to find exactly what my current policy is. They new what coverages I currently have without having to ask.

This sounds very fishy to me, like every insurance company knows what type of policy you have, and what you're paying. Since all 3 of the prices I got were within a few dollars of each other, and all three were just a bit below what I'm paying now, I think there some serious issue with information sharing going on. Something that truly screws the consumer; elephant schwantz in the sphincter, no reach-around.

Is this just Virginia? I don't remember this happening when I live in Michigan. I never remember an insurance company telling me what current coverages I had with my current company.

I swear to God, this area is a complete and utter shit hole. I can't stand living here.:frusty::frusty:

Thanks for letting me vent.

ETA; at the end of the 3rd call for a quote, I asked the woman I was speaking with (who was the actual licensed insurance agent, not one of her sales minions), and she told me my rate was so high because I was in some sort of "special insurance group" due to an accident back in 2015. I pressed her for details, and she said something about a "hit and run", which never happened.

What DID happen is a friggin' house-frau was paying all her attention to her crotch-fruit in the baby seat behind her, and ran her mini-van into the back of my 2012 BPP GT while I was sitting at a light, without ever touching the break pedal. She hit me. Her insurance paid for my damages, but this agent said that was the reason why my rate was so high.

Very pissed, am I.

I am old, have no points, no tickets, no at-fault accidents. Clean as a whistle for over 12 or 15 years.

One additional thing; the husband of the stupid ditz that hit me was a lawyer. I smell something fishy again.

If you are a good driver, then it's all about zip code and the distance you drive the car. If you have kids or married its a little cheaper.

Geico charges me almost the same price as my car loan for 8 months of the year for full coverage. Im mid 30's and a clean record. Every other company like you said know everything just by SSN# and how their databases share information.

Still Venting;

I'm damn near 50 years old, drive 10 miles to work and live in a good neighborhood. Kids/married shouldn't mean shit.

What should mean shit is my actual driving/accident record. :censored::censored:

Same price as your car loan (payment? One payment?) every 8 months? If that's the case, if they charge you like 400-600 every 8 months, that's amazing.

Insurance companies have one system they log into that links them together. It is legit.

When I moved (same city, different region) to a new zipcode my insurance went up about $10 a month. I called to ask why and it was due to a higher risk of insurance fraud/ accident reports in that zipcode. I was like lolwat? There is a high 'trailer parks per capita' around here, though...ugh, need to move again.

I pay 174 a month for full coverage insurance.
I put about 8500 miles a year on the car, it's not a lot but the rate is slowly going up. I think it's because everyone else that owns this car total it a lot, and it doesn't take much to get it there.

Legal, sure. "Legit"? Not by a long shot.

It's complete B.S. Supposedly they don't see what the other companies are charging, but I'd bet they do. I'd bet there's some code or something.

Prices being so similar mean the fix is in.

I think you are right and I am sure insurance companies have to be adding something to the pricing due to all the mustang videos. Years ago I was in a forum that found statistics are 305Zs were the number one wrecked vehicle.. I'd like to know what it is now. Hahaha. Hopefully not Mustangs despite what the internet would lead you to believe.

My rep flat told me the car is statistically in more accidents and I live in a zip code with a high accident rate. Cheapest zip code for insurance is 30 miles away so I'd spend two hours a day sitting in traffic to save $180 every six months. Naah.

$2400/yr for 3 cars fully covered. I shopped for weeks and found Allstate to be the cheapest. They suck for homeowners though.

Oh I'm getting raped by insurance here in metro Detroit, it's 400 a month. Clean record, good neighborhood too. Frustrating. These cars cant be that costly to repair can they? I'm sure there's many other factors, there must be.

I got a rate of $390 first time around. Shop around some more unless MI has rigged the market like MD has. You should be able to do better.

Thankfully Geico saved me from having to pay USAA 190 dollars a month. I now only pay 4 dollars more a month than I did for my 2006 V6 Mustang at 130 a month.
