Wondering who bought a radar detector already and how you installed the wire tap. My friend sent some pictures of what he did with his 2015 GT but they have 14 plugs when our GT350s have 16 plugs behind the rear view mirror. Post what radars you recommend and the install pictures, please.

Thank You.

My priorities may have been different, I wanted a dashcam 100% of the time for traffic and record my laps, a radar detector was secondary. Since I don't use the radar detector all the time, I decided that a slight compromise was acceptable. I'm not suggesting this may be right for you, but here is what I did.
I installed my dashcam behind the rearview mirror and tapped into the auxiliary lighting circuit, that kept the install clean, automatic and working 100% of the time while the ignition was on.
I gave up trying to find an acceptable spot for the radar detector at the top of the windshield where it could be wired in and not be intrusive. I installed an Escort Redline detector and mounted it on a 1/2 inch dense foam riser to the dash with industrial Velcro and used the console power socket for the Tech Pack. This works out very nicely and I can mute the detector easily from the console. When I am on the track and need to remove the radar detector, the whole thing removes in about 5 seconds. Everything works just the way I want it, and I really like the Redline detector. This model has been independently rated best in its class against all the leading brands I have been using Escort detectors for about 15 years in my cars and on my bikes.

IMHO, the best radar detector/locator you can get is the Valentine 1. Price is the highest, but mine has saved me the cost 4x over the years. Mike Valentine is the guy who started Cincinnati Microwave back in the '70's and pretty much invented the Radar Detector (Escort).

I installed mine with the Blendmount and Wiretap. Sorry for the blurry shot of the Wiretap, but it was hard to take the picture blind and there wasn't enough room to get my iPhone in for a good shot.

With the V1 and wiretap can u still use the v1 connect? Seems that Yav1 gives lots of extra functionality

So the black ground wire for the tap goes into the same square hole as the original blue/black wire.

And the red 12v wire for the tap goes into the same square hole as the original brown/yellow wire.

So the new wires just squeeze in the same square hole with the original wires.

Yes, per the included instructions. You have to rotate the pin and insert (repeat, repeat, repeat) until you get a tight fit with each one. Then the zip tie holds the cable in place. It's very solid when finished.

I wired mine directly to my fuse box with a fuse add-a-circuit thing. Works great. My radar detector is a Radeon. Look it up if you have never heard of it. Kicks the crap out of Escort and Valentine.

I got a mini wiretap, and put the positive on the brown yellow wire and the negative on the black/blue wire, and it works.
It doesn’t come on until the engine is started, and goes off immediately on engine shut-down. Thanks for all the options!

No pics, but it's pretty straight forward.
Radar detector on suction mount beside mirror on driver's side, mirrortap. Uniden R7
Dashcam behind mirror on a blendmount.

reviving an older thread:
-- the mirror on a 2020 seems to have less ports available than earlier models - does anyone have a closeup photo of the ports and where to plug in?
-- also, I don't quite see how to undo the harness from the mirror to have easier access to the taps
-- last, does anyone have a part# or link to a wire tap that has the correct ends for a 2020 and fits a Uniden R8 on the other end?

Thx in advance!!

I have detectors mounted on both my 350 and 500. If you need I can take a pic of the back of the mirror when I get off today if it'd help you. Both are 20's.
