Hey I have a 2016 GT with a H pipe, Roush AB and Lund tune. It is my daily driver so I have about 78k miles on it. I wanted to put either ARH, Texas Speed or Stainless Power catted headers. If I were to go this route I would ditch the Roush AB for Borla S Types and keep the Lethal Performance H pipe. I'm trying to get a clear understanding if I would pass or fail emissions doing so. After installation people say they get a CEL, how so? Even if I went catted what would cause me to fail emissions? Tell me your experiences please.

I’ve heard people saying that catted headers still don’t pass emissions, I would get something from the manufacturer that says they do before you install…

Wow that sucks. Definitely don't want that headache.

if you have visual inspections they will prob fail you. if just obd testing then you might be ok. i run o2 spacers on my rear o2s. initially i was unable to get all my monitors to be in readiness state using my tune so i put the spacers on to prevent CEL with the headers on stock tune so i could drive it and smog. however i am now able to get all my monitors to be ready with the tune still on and just recently passed smog with almost your exact setup.

long story short if you have visual inspections i wouldnt bother but just obd testing should be fine.

My area in GA they just do the OBD test. It seems like everyone's experience varies.

Something to consider, removing the stock cats is a violation of Federal Law not just state law. That being said if you have to run OEM software at best LTs may be worth 10-12rwhp. Is it worth it for just that?

Yeah you're right. The rules really suck.

You can replace the cats "if they have failed"

I don't know about yours but mine were plugged up. Wink Wink.

If you can run your stock tune, you can pass emissions with headers. If you installed an 18 manifold and can't get past the readiness test, you're screwed unless a tuner will turn off your O2's. Did this dance on my 2017 GT and don't plan on doing it with the Mach 1 this round.

Yes you can but they have to be a smog legal replacement. If in Cali it has to be a CARB approved cat, in the other 49 states just EPA legal. Kooks sells them.

However, this would never fly in Cali or other states that do a visual.

We don't have emissions testing. 25 years or so ago we put it on a ballot and voted it out. The EPA said if we vote it out we must use a reduced emissions gas in the summer.

Good trade IMO

Most definitely...than again the whole population of Kentucky doesn't even equal half of LA County. I can see why they did this as the density per square mile is so low that the emissions are probably negligible as far as the whole CO2 output of the country. Also most people won't modify their cars.

So in Kentucky they use a summer blend like Cali does in the summer?

Yes but just in the 3 northern counties and Louisville. The summer blend sucks for power but E85 makes it all right.

When we had emissions testing it was a real pain in the ass.
