Morning all,

Interested in y'all's educated opinions on which of these options I should go for with around a $1300 budget. Not terribly interested in "none of the above" or "these are all stupid" or "you are stupid" responses :p

This is a weekend cruiser which has not seen track time. Zero interest in drag racing but plan on doing some HPD track days here at Pacific Raceways.

2017 GT PP, FRPP Track Handling Pack, FRPP Power Pack 2, couple of other odds and ends

Option 1: DSS or QA1 Carbon Fiber Driveshaft: Considering to reduce rotational mass. Don't care about the power rating as I'm not pushing much power. Don't want to go aluminum due to all the bad reviews of vibration and harmonics

Option 2: Keep my stock PP wheels but upgrade the tires from Pirellis to the Michelin 4S

Option 3: Keep stock tires but upgrade to something like an Enkei Raijin wheel set for reduced weight but close to stock looks

Thoughts?

Option 2 or 3 for sure. A driveshaft isn't gonna do a whole lot for you. If you're still on OEM Pirelli garbage I'd ditch those.

$1300 is hard to stretch for wheels and tires.

Combine 2&3 with some careful shopping around you might be able to swing something nice in your budget? Don't forget it's easy to move used pp wheels on craigslist help recoup some of the cost. Lighter wheels&stickier wider tires will make a world of difference in handling&looks:thumbsup:

After reselling my stock wheels, I have less than $800 in my squared motegi mr133s n Cooper 255/45/18s. Plus I shaved about 30# in total rotational mass off. And gained by a wider rim&tire, nearly 4" of total tread section width to the ground.:headbang:

Wheels are an enormous upgrade.

When I did mine on my GT I went with apex EC 7s 18x10. I have them wrapped in 275s, Indy 500 flavor. Even though that's not a super sticky tire, the few track days I had on them were positive.

Yeah, 2 & 3. Save more money if you have to.

Lighter wheels, better MP4S tires, and a 4-square set-up.

Definitely a 4-square set-up. Like, 285s all the way around.

Too bad, you're gonna hear it anyway.

Option 4:
Tires. Conti ExtremeContact Sports are a great and honestly very little compromise second best to 4S's.

and

BMR cradle lockout kit. All of that stuff you mentioned for your current mods is useless unless you get the rear subframe under control and prevent it from binding so the suspension can actually do its job. Almost zero increase in NVH.

Agree with everyone, wheels and tires but hard to do both with your budget. Could try keeping an eye out on the classifieds here for used wheels.

I just tried buying lighter & wider wheels for around your budget... then I went forged and blew right through and past that budget without tires. Wheels are still a few weeks out from the manufacturer, can't wait to get my hands on them! Dropping a touch over 40lbs of unsprung weight and putting more rubber down was worth upping the budget for me anyways.

Nevermind...I see you have a stop the hop kit. You're good.

Tires.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'm hearing wheels and tires ;)

I want to keep a stock or close to stock look. Considering the Enkei Raijin for that reason. 22 lbs each. Thoughts? Alternatives? Don't really want to go hog wild and want to keep a gloss black appearance similar to the stock PP wheels (but obviously no need to be identical). I realize its totally subjective here, but lets say I'm going to stay with 19x10 at all 4 corners.

Do 22 lb wheels make enough of a difference over stock to justify the cost? Performance wise not looks wise (and lets leave out tire width for now, focusing only on weight savings)
