the HID's fitted are IIRC a single bulb covering both dip and main beam. The facelift models got the LED headlight units, they are pretty damned good but obv dont fit the earlier models without changing the bonnet (hood) and front wings (fenders) ?

My understanding is low beams are LED and highs are HID. Correct? Is there an LED upgrade?
Your understanding is incorrect. The 15-17 cars use what is called a bi-xenon HID projector. 1 bulb only, a shield inside the projector will flip down when high beams are activated, exposing the entire bulb to the lens. When low beams are on, the shield flips up which gives that signature sharp cutoff.

HID projectors are designed for HID bulbs. Jamming a different type of light source in there is NOT the correct way of modifying things. If you wanted to go beyond the bulbs I sent, you'd have to look into what is essentially overdriving the bulb with higher wattage ballasts.

This product in 50 watt ballast will it increase light output

It would, however IDK that'll be plug and play with the factory wiring.

I have never touched a 18+ car, however I have NEVER seen any factory setup use HID for high beam only. It'd be bad for bulb lift. It should be a Bi-LED setup, same concept like a Bi-xenon just using a LED for light instead of a HID bulb.

Should be biLED but I recall reading somewhere it not. The Ford spec simply states LED. Adjusted properly they are some of the best lights. I have low beam high enough as to just not annoy oncoming and it's perfect.
