I saw that Steeda sells heatshields that go between the bottom of the Manifold and engine to keep the intake cooler. I was wondering if anyone has ever actually tried one and if it helped any. I imagine if it actually works it would help with lower intake temps. They do list a 12hp gain on their 350 IM shield, but I feel like that's excessive.

My opinion is don't bother. The intake manifold is contained under the hood along with the rest of the engine so will attain the same temps when the engine is running whether is has a heat shield or not. Radiation is the least effective method of heat transfer compared to convection or conduction. Now if the engine got to 1,500+ degrees like in the case of a catalytic converter then yes I'd have a heat shield protecting the manifold, but not for the 200-225 degrees that comes from the engine.

Plus it is a plastic manifold not aluminum. :).

Pure Steeda profit. Dario must have cooked this one up.

The manifold is plastic so it doesnt retain/transfer heat much to begin with, and the air going through it is only in contact for what... half a second?

I thought about getting or making one too but once I thought about it, it makes no sense. If you have a metal intake manifold, it could have more impact.
