I have a cheapy phone that I use Torque Pro and an add on Racing Meter that i use as a shift light in my mustang. as part of the display, i have the AIT temp gauge in the corner. I recently installed a CPE intercooler which works great btw, but what i have noticed regardless of IC is that as soon as i sit at a light, the AIT temp starts shooting up. I can hit 115 within a min or so here in FL.

so what ive been thinking, is that the IC needs some air flow while at idle, since its basically sitting enclosed in the bumper due to the belly pan so it just heats up like crazy.

how would i get airflow at a stop light then? I was thinking that a pair of slim radiator fans installed behind the IC in the belly pan could PULL cool air through the IC while the car is idle.

really the only thing i would wonder about is how to activate the fans when the car is idle, and have them stop when you start moving again.

Thoughts??!!

Before I reply to ur qsn, do u know you can get charge temp also on it Torque app?! I have all the temps (ambient, intake, charge) Something to keep in mind.

Back to ur point, I am doing IC sprayers soon on my new new IC. I believe that would be more beneficial than putting these fans. I have data log with stock IC no sprayer, and soon will have with sprayer and see if that actually does anything.

no I did Not know that actually. Neat! but im actually using that other app, Racing Meter, which is a plug-in for Torque. it was also $5, so not bad. and while it has a bit more limited monitors, I am really just using it as a shift light

I am also working on an IC sprayer actually lol. I found a company that has all sizes of tanks, and found a bitchin pump on amazon for 12 bucks.

tank website

im going with the 2 gallon low profile one so it fits in the trunk spare tire well

amazon pump. its self priming, so i thought that was cool too. i was going to design my own sprayers as well and 3d print them... what setup will you be using?

Well, yeh that could be done. But I plan to use the windshield line for now to prove that is works. My buddy is doing full review on his one soon, he has pressure switch that controls pump.. something more complicated if you want fully automated!

i have a supercharged Mini as well... and when we were tuning it for meth, my buddy was spraying the IC with water to cool the thing off between and during runs. and i have to say, i got nearly the same HP from just THAT as i did meth! so i know it works.

im not too fond of using using windshield washer reservoir myself for several reasons. 1, i need that fluid to clean my windshield lots here in FL lol. and i know it would run out of fluid constantly, so id rather not have to pop the hood all the time for that.

as for activation on mine, im going with at it a few ways: 1. manual button and 2. WOT switch. i bought a timed relay off ebay, so the pump will activate for some set amount of time when either switch is activated.

can you send me what pressure switch hes using? ive been trying to find a boost sensor that will activate something at a certain boost level, but have had little luck.

I'd be interested to see the datalog with the sprayer, specifically the delta between your IAT (directly after the airbox) and charge temps post-intercooler.

One thing I never quite figured out - where is the sensor for the post-intercooler temps? The reason I ask is because I use a different PID that I found labeled as IAT2, and from what I've read elsewhere online and in ForScan, it suggests this is somewhere near or in the intake manifold. However, I've seen there is a sensor near the outlet side of the intercooler, so maybe that's it? I've seen PIDs for the charge temp, but could never get them to work. For reference, the PID header for IAT2 is 2203ca and the formula is (A-40)*1.8+32.

Below is a screenshot from torque pro showing both temps. I've labeled IAT2 as "MCT" in the app.

Below is a screenshot from ForScan showing IAT1 and IAT2. As you can see, the "charge air cooler temperature" is a dummy value which seems to be a function of the celcius/fahrenheit conversion, suggesting a value of 0. When I change the units to celcius, sure enough the value is 0.

OP, if you're interested, I can upload the .csv with the custom PIDs I'm using in torque pro.

Get a reservoir that has baffles in it, are you going to use the sprayers at every light..? Why 2 gallons..?

The temp sensor is part of the pressure sensor installed at the outlet of the intercooler

Hmmm...

I’m wondering if this gadget used for the G35’s will work on the S550 EB? I’m sure it can be wired in as long as someone has EB wiring diagrams and if not, someone has to be able to design a similar product for IC use on the EB:

http://www.treadstoneperformance.com/product.phtml?p=2363&prodname=IFC+Controller+

If going for a fan setup, SPAL is the type of electric fans you want, high quality, extremely low failure rate, quiet (as can be depending on total CFM), waterproof and depending on which fan chosen, they offer some of the highest CFM electric fans available.

I have their dual 11” setup on my 94 Cobra and combined those fans are pushing over 2700 CFM - effectively and quickly cools down my Cobra. I have them on a Hayden dual fan controller, so once the sensor is activated based on preset temp, those suckers turn on instantly and will auto shut down once they reach the preset off temp. They’ve been installed on my Cobra for nearly 10 years now and still work flawlessly.

Here’s some good pricing for SPAL:
https://www.holley.com/brands/spal/

I’m guessing (2) 7” or 8” fans pulling 300+ CFMs each (so say 600 total) should be enough to cool the IC at stop lights (or insert other cooling period here).

The other thing to consider when installing electric fans is to design or create a shroud. The shroud directs and keeps the air flow directed at the surface area you’re trying to cool down. No shroud, it’s just pointless and won’t be as effective in quickly cooling the IC. So depending on which IC is being used (stock vs aftermarket) a dual fan set up would be best, a shroud to mount the fans into would be perfect and the most effective setup.

The Toyota MR2 used factory electric fans for its IC due to where it was located, so I would say a definitive “yes” as to it can be done on an EB.

i dont know of any reservoirs with baffles. i dont think that will be such an issue.

as to why 2 gallons, because thats enough water not to have to fill the tank every other day, and a short enough tank to fit in the trunk where the spare tire well is.

will i use it at every light? prob not. ill have a switch to activate it on demand, and prob do another switch for WOT. eventually ill have something rigged up where its temperature based.

i like this idea too but isnt misting an intercooler without (distilled?) water going to be bad for the intercooler?
