A little backstory I was sitting in the parking lot and the car was still running and all of a sudden the car started to emit blue smoke from the tailpipes. I had the PCV gut and I figured maybe it wasn't a big deal and I went home and checked my catch can it wasn't completely full but it had a good amount so I drained it and got my oil changed the same day. I kept driving the car and noticed that under boost I was making a blue streak of smoke where ever I went and I started getting worried it took it to ford and they told me the reason was that my turbo was blown. I was shocked because the car was driving fine and I haven't really punched it in a while and since I was tuned it wouldn't be covered under warranty so it would be 2k to fix. So I then called Vargas turbo and got their stage one that was off of their shop car for a reasonable price and got it installed by a professional shop. To my amazement, the car was still smoking, however, there was a scraping sound coming from my old turbo so I didn't replace it for nothing. I then took it back to the dealership and told them that the turbo was replaced but the car is still smoking they took it in and said that they can't work on it cause of the Vargas turbo but I tried explaining to them that it couldn't possibly be the turbo and that they could phase that out of the diagnostic but they refuse to diagnose my car. I am taking the car to another dealership so I can at least figure out what is going on.

When the new turbo was installed I had all new spark plugs installed however the old plugs had a white crust on them and even with brand new plugs the car would misfire. I was wondering if anyone can give me any help as to what could be going on.

One more thing to note is that the throttle body still has oil in it even with the catch can and I don't know where it is coming from.

Please, any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

If you blew the turbo, oil has entered your exhaust and intake. It's gonna take a little bit to burn it off.

Hi Evan546, sorry to hear about your troubles. Going vargas was a logical step given what they are saying. Not sure on the smoke, but the oil might indicate you need a clean side catch can if I'm not mistaken.

There are a lot of smart people in this forum so hopefully they can steer you in the right direction.

Find a shop and get a compression and leak down test to see if you're hurt.

First off, which catch can do you have? I'm hoping the UPR DVCC as it has check valves in place to prevent boost from entering the crankcase. If you have a different catch can (without a check valve in place) and gutted the PCV, that's going to be some bad juju. If you have the UPR DVCC, double check your check valve(s) to ensure that the arrow is going in the right direction (towards the intake manifold).

In regards to the white crust, that sounds like ash deposits which usually derive from burning oil and/or fuel additives (which would be plausible with a blown turbo). Once that builds up so much, it'll cause misfiring and hesitation. That could have been the source of the misfiring on the old plugs, but it's odd that it still does it on the new plugs, so that leads me to this conclusion.

Like Weather Man suggested, find a shop to do a compression and/or leak down test. You can actually do the compression test yourself as it's rather simple, and that would tell you a lot about the current condition of the internals of the engine.

Here's the thing though, if your catch can was too full (I think the UPR can hold about 8 ounces), it might have ingested some oil. In that case, it might smoke for a little while due to having to burn the oil out/off.

How long have you driven it since installing the new turbo and plugs?

If you want to do a compression test yourself, do the following:

*make sure the engine is warmed up to normal operating temperature*

Rent the tool from Advance/AutoZone.
Remove all of the spark plugs from the engine.
Install the compression tester in the first cylinder.
While sitting in the car, mash the gas pedal all the way to the floor (this will keep the injectors from firing) and press the start button.
The engine will rotate 5 or 6 times before ceasing on its own, so be patient with this and don't press the start button again.
Once it's finished cranking, go look at the compression tester gauge and record the number.
Release the pressure in the compression tester (little button on the side of the gauge assembly) and repeat the same process for the other cylinders.

Once you have those numbers, come back and post them.

car will be burning oil two ways. oil gets past piston ring and burn or oil gets into intake and burn. i would suggest installing fords latest pcv wo gutting them to see if it fixes the issues. if not.. check the cylinders too but i kinda doubt so.

From my understanding this isn't a good sign. Also, why don't u stop taking your car to a dealership, and instead go to a local performance shop and see what they can find??

Inspect your turbo for missing metal pieces blown to the engine

Once you mod the car the Ford mechanics are out of their league. They will certainly be willing to work on the car and charge you a bucket of money.

Install the updated oil separator/pcv. I have a feeling the mishimoto can't keep up with the volume of oil passing through it with the old oil separator/gutted pcv combo. The updated unit is a lot more effecient and does not require the gutting of the pcv.
