This 2.3L turbo 4 is definitely the most intriguing engine in a Mustang since the DOHC 4.6L debuted. I really, really, not just really, want to drive one. Not because it is the power train I'd buy in a Mustang, but because how bad can a turbocharged 300hp rear whel drive car be, right? Gotta figure a tune and a cat-less down pipe has got to pick up some respectable power. Only way having a 4 cylinder in a Mustang could be better is if it is a diesel right? (Getting warm fuzzies now thinking about turbo diesel burnouts in a Stang)

That's not entirely true. What he said was the he got what could out of them..."and they're durable." We all know that the "bean counters" won't allow them to max these engines out on account of Ford having to warranty these powerplants. The massive gains with simple mods on the 3.5 and 2.0 have been proven again and again. The 2.3 has no reason to be any different.

The 3.5 Ecoboost has been out for a while--I'm going to research the SHO forums to see what modifications have been done. An intercooler has got to be number one mod along with reflashing the ECM

Based on my 2.3L MZR: intake, downpipe, ECU reflash, and intercooler would almost put your wheel horsepower about where the stock flywheel horsepower is.

My MZR has to have some supporting mods, too, though if you want longevity. I'm sure people will figure that out for the Ford 2.3L, too. Mark my words, people will be blowing up their engines in the first two years.

That's been true for every performance car since the beginning of performance cars. It wouldn't be any different in this case.

You have a good reason to be intrigued. The motor is amazing, but the overall engine/chassis combination makes the car an absolute hoot on a track. The distribution is great, and the torque curve of the 2.3L is amazing!

I think I'm going this route as well...mine will be a daily driver through a very large college town with some bad traffic. I'm very interested in the ecoboost+paddle shifter combination, it just might be perfect for me and a great compromise since a GT+manual will have some drawbacks for me.

I'm just wondering if the ecoboost Mustang might be the lightest/best handling out of the factory issued cars (not counting any performance models of course).
