Some more tips from the hypermileing gurus:

-hardcore hypermilers simply bring ice water in the car with them so they can stay cool with the windows closed and the AC off

LOL

-When hypermiling, you should never need to push down the pedal by more than an inch (2.5cm).[2] Some recent cars may in fact have pedals that "push back" when you're accelerating too aggressively.

The Car fights with you!

-Consider driving on only half a tank at a time. Each gallon equals roughly 6 pounds, which adds up — 10 gallons (37.9 L) is an extra 60 pounds that your car is carrying everywhere.

-Warning- Driving in this manner could evoke road rage from other drivers.

I have seen 30+ average a few times on 50-100 mile trips. Some say the car gets 3 mpg less then what the dash average says. Even if true, 27mpg+/- is not too bad for these heavy cars.

Disengaging the clutch when coasting makes a considerable difference. Revs drop down to 750 or so.
Disengaging the clutch isn't a big deal since the car cuts fuel when coasting unless the engine needs fuel during low RPM's.

Anyone here hypermile their GT?
I certainly didn't have an illusions about MPG's when getting this car. I view this more of a fun challenge to see how much higher you can get above EPA values.

I'm curious what people can get. For shits and giggles I tried it on my commute into Baltimore with a 3.73 rear pp GT and did 30 MPG. I imagine I pissed off some people but the dichotomy was fun.

For those unaware the point is to be as efficient as possible and get the best possible gas mileage:

Use optimum gear at optimum RPM.
Take turns faster without braking. Brake as little as possible in general.
Use other vehicles to break wind resistance.

It would be interesting to see if its more efficient to go 60mph at a lower rpm in 6th, as opposed to 70mp at around 2200 rpm.
Don't really care, to be honest, as long as you stay out of the left lane... otherwise I am going to road rage your ass.

My best mpg average for my 13 and 15 mustang gt's have been 28.3 but I my 13 had a better over all mpg average. Look up Fleeger on fuelly and it's all there.

I get between 19-20 (I've never reset the trip meter and it's reading 19.6), though most of my driving is highway and mashing it if I'm somehow magically the first car waiting for a light to turn green. On long trips coasting at around 82 I've hit almost 28mpg which IMO is fantastic.

Hypermileing is replacing tires with skinny ones and pump them up to 50 psi. Taping all the gaps on the body panel and remove any excess unnecessary weight.
Way more than that.

There are a number of hypermile driving techniques. Many of them will piss off other drivers, and at least one of them (following too closely) may actually be illegal.
