I've been reading everybody sharing their experiences and couldn't wait to share mine. As a young kid growing up in the late 60s I remember a next door neighbor washing and detailing his 1965 butternut yellow convertible pretty much every weekend - maybe that's where I got my start! Since then I've had 1984 GT 5sp (my first new car). 1995 Cobra hardtop and a 2003 satin silver cobra hardtop plus a couple 69 Z/28s. All DDs
I work in film sound and had the pleasure to work on A Faster Horse as the producer knew my passion for mustangs and film sound were a combo he couldn't pass up for this documentary. A must see for any mustang fan but almost more importantly an inspirational piece about commitment and dedication to consumers, history and work ethic. Perfect Americana. That film influenced me to get a mustang in the new body style. Ford loaned me a new 50th Anniversary to record. I was really let down by how big, heavy, boaty and underpowered the car was. This was all coming from a heavily modded 03 cobra with 500rwhp and just about every suspension mod one could put on those cars. So that assessment was probably unfair. Around this time it was leaked that there would be a Shelby and I knew that more than likely address my disappointment with the GT.
Even though I was after a regular GT350 when the opportunity came to get fast tracked for an R I couldn't pass it up. Ordered an Avalanche Grey with the electronics.
Picked up up on the 12th of May after tracking it roughly 5 times a day on COTUS! With Mother's Day weekend I only have 20 miles on it but was able to give it wash #1, some clay bar and a quick protective wax.
More impressions as they come up but so far the clutch and shifter are fine by me but I must not put it in first firmly as it pops out quite a bit -hope that's not a problem. Put a standard non R splitter on because I was concerned about clearances but still scrape the crap out of it getting in and out of the driveway - seemed like a normal suburbia driveway but still didn't want to risk a $2600 piece. I think it was a good call for my situation. Installed the passenger side oil separator and JLT inserts in the rocker panels which was filled with gravel off the truck since I requested no wash or sticker removal.
It's definitely a big car - seems way bigger than the 03 cobra even though it's not. The best part is it drives way better than the 2015 GT I had for a couple days and that's without exploring all the modes. The Michelins find every pebble in the road. Crazy. Can't wait to drive it more (DD a Focus ST) and report in.
Thanks for all the info people here have supplied over the years.
