Hey all, I was looking into getting a PD supercharger (Edelbrock) and was wondering if any of you guys both have a supercharger and do HPDE track days? I've been searching the forums and most people seem to stick to NA or go with a centri, but at the end of the day, this is my daily and I drive the car 365 days of the year, while only attending 3-4 track weekends a year. I would love to have a PD setup but I still want to be able to do track days. Any suggestions on this? Also, would it be possibly to tune for less power for those track days so prevent overheating, etc?

Thanks!

Just yesterday I had to take my Whipple supercharged mustang in to a shop for a windshield replacement. I don't trust anyone, so I went into the Whipple flare settings and turned all gears down 25%. It was pretty interesting to drive it that way. Power delivery was really close to stock, and throttle response was still pretty snappy. It made me wonder what it would be like to drive like that on a track. I'm betting I'd still have issues with controlling temps, but the Whipple tune does provide a nice easy way to reduce power.

I daily my 16 Mustang as well as attend around 6-8 road course track days a year. I run my Whipple at full power all the time and run a 100 octane tune while at the track and I’m on E85 on the road (wish it was at the track). You will have no issue except for heat but usually your diff will be the hottest thing first. Run it.

Oh wow, and you're able to handle 3-4 20 minute sessions a day?

Typically run 5 20 min sessions a day with no issue and I’m pretty aggressive. No problem with overheating except the differential which I’ve corrected with a cooler. I’ve run plenty of hot days here in CA. The Whipple has played very well.

I've had similar thoughts as I begin to dive into my TT build, not so much for heat but for boost entry. I drove an M4 that was running higher boost at about 580hp and the way it kicks in will kick the car out and can be dangerous if your not laser focused on throttle modulation. I was thinking of using a progressive boost controller to help the boost ramp in a little nicer.

I regularly track a TT. I turn boost down to around 7psi and use 50/50 e85. Car runs great, but eventually it get pretty hot. Engine temps will be 240’s and the gearbox has been into the 260’s. I have a diff cooler, so all good there. Keeping rpm’s down is the most effective way to keep motor cool, I start shifting at 6,000 when temp get to high.

Is 7psi decent where if you go into boost exiting a corner it's not violent?

I'm interested as well. Last track day I had ZL1s, Z06, and ZR1s zipping past me on the straights and they don't seem to be having problems.
