We typically see these types of spikes on the AT cars as they attempt to compensate for shifting losses by adding TIP for the expected pressure delta between gears. Since we record the "peak" value for display on the AP3 you'll often see higher values than what is run during the coarse of a single gear pull. If you datalog the vehicle in a single gear I'd imagine you'd see closer to the advertised pressures, and a multi-gear pull would have these spikes in between shifts.

Do I need a tune for replacing the fmic? Or does the ots map have enough flexibility?

We're working on that right now ;)

You'll be OK running the upgraded intercooler on the Stage1 map for sure. We'll be optimizing the calibration for an intercooler which should make its way to our Stage2 maps soon!

I'm guessing it's too early to know how much you can push it safely but aren't you guys worried about blowing the engine? Does anyone know about the internals on the ecoboost? Are they forged

There's quite a bit of info about the internals. The crank and rods are forged. The pistons are cast. There has been some failures, but until more info comes to light, it'd be difficult to accurate say where the limit is power wise for the factory parts.

I am pretty sure that in all of the failures it was a rod that broke. They are the weak link.

I'm wondering how much of that is in the tune too though. It's seems like the rod failures have been when people were really pushing the engines near and/or beyond their limits. Detonation will kill even the strongest of engines.

Heard of a number of head gasket failures too, although it seems those may be due to improper assembly at the factory. Of course, Ford is touting the upgraded head gasket on the Focus RS as one of the big improvements. Makes you wonder...

That's very true. Apparently, the head gaskets are a known problem, hence, the upgraded gasket in the FoRS.

Yes, the rods are not going to handle detonation for long.

It's the same way with the other 4 cylinder EcoBoost engines too. The 2.0EB guys were seeing a lot of what we're seeing right now, so once the tuners get a good understanding of what can be done, then I think it'll improve drastically. The 2.0EB rods are nearly identical and they're putting down well over 400+ whp/wtq now, so it's a learning process.

Something else that I've noticed is that most of the established EcoBoost tuners are just now coming around to the 2.3. A lot of the tuners, like Bama, Lund, RIP, etc., didn't have prior experience with the EcoBoost engines, so there's that learning curve for them. The EBs are very particular in the way they need to be tuned and what they'll tolerate.

I'm excited to see what the guys like Stratified, Panda, Freektune, Mountune, etc., are going to be able to do with it. Those are guys that have been in the 4 cylinder EB and DISI (Mazda) platforms a long time and know the in's and out's of these engines.

As much fun as buying an EB...along w/ another longblock specifically for pistons/rods/headwork sounds...a GT is sounding more appealing everyday...

An Eco can out run a gt with out all that. If your wanting a 100k mid 11 sec daily driver yeah buy the gt.
