I went to the ford dealership and they told me it takes 4 hrs maybe more to program a blank and new ecu for my 2015 mustang 3.7. I bought two new keys from levittown ford website because they were $100+ cheaper than the local ford dealer thats supposed to program my ecu. They charge $200 per hr. He told me around $825 but could take more than that. I called the best local auto key maker and they said around $400 to program ecu and 2 new keys.

Does anybody know about how long it takes to program a new ECU for a mustang??

I don't believe it takes 4 hrs to program an ecu. I think they are charging you more for the overhead of the work. Meaning paper, etc. Etc. I don't know if they have to do a lot of procedures such as key learning, but I am sure there are setting they can probably back up and restore. In my opinion I think it's ridiculous the amount of money they are charging for a task that is not complicated. I had to have my acura rsx computer programmed once and I found a tech that did it on the side.

That is high, but things don't always go as planned when programming and there is a lot of waiting involved. I have had them take 2+ hours. While it may not sound complicated, it is not an intuitive process at all and it can take quite a bit of time.

Not sure on the mustang but I programmed a new ecu, immobilizer and two keys in well under an hour on my civic.

When I bought my car CPO required I get 2 keys. Dealer has a mobile locksmith do the work. Clearing all keys, programming 2 keys and cutting 1 physical key took about 30 minutes.
4 hours seems high to me, I'd think closer to two. But things don't always go as planned when dealing with auto electronics, soo...
I do know that if there's an alternative to the dealer I would choose that option first.
Curious where you got the new ECM? I thought most places that sold them just took your VIN and preprogrammed it for your car. Then it would just be the matter of having keys done.
